Hi
DS1 is 12 and just finished year 7. He has always been very slim, although a good weight.

There are a lot of variables in play at the moment :
No football at break time (although the emotional benefits of no arguments are huge!!)
The SPARKS program he did at primary doesn't happen any more .
Hormones are raging.

I'm noticing that he is putting on weight and concerned that it's more than just 'puppy fat' (while not wanting to cause any other self image angst issues...)

In addition, I'm noticing that his stamina is really low. He can't sustain any effort for more than 5 minutes.

This is putting us in a chicken and egg situation...

He does judo once a week. His secondary games teacher is fab at getting him to go to a team sport once a week as well as games. (What the sports teachers never hear/notice is the subtle non-passing or comments from the 'really sporty' children. Sad )

Any ideas of what we can do to build stamina? He wants to join our local gym (just aerobic equipment) but I know it will not last unless his stamina grows...

Thank you for reading

I would let him join the gym if that's what he wants to do.

Thank you, I'm completely up for him joining the gym, it's just the lack of stamina means that he will do 5 minutes and then give up.

I think I've got to a point where I think it's more than the usual 'sticking to the task'. He has always been pretty compliant but do anything that requires repetition and he's done. Even when he knows it's a good thing.

Any ideas of how to build up stamina, or even the 'can do ' to last longer?

It's all theoretical for me as ds won't do anything! But wanting to do it is probably the best first step.

DS does love his sport. However much clubs say they are 'for all abilities', it doesn't change the fact that most players are there to win.

Are you sporty Polter?
