Yes, I noticed that sweet picture of her. I was pleased that they didn't feel any need to mention that she has Down's.

Unfortunaly the bbc

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/812401.stm
mentioned that she 'suffered' from Down's .

Which is like describing me as suffering from having blue eyes.

DelGirl · 12/07/2004 21:29

is it me? The article states that she is 5 and that she is Diana's godchild. Diana died in 97 didn't she?

DelGirl · 12/07/2004 21:29

and I agree, why mention DS???

tamum · 12/07/2004 21:51

I thought she was about 8 or 9, surely? You're right, they must have got it wrong. I remember reading an article by Rosa Monckton, her mother, about how Diana was brilliant when Domenica was born- not shying away from mentioning Down's but not being all kind of "oh how hard for you", just practical support and help, and instant bonding with the baby. Made me feel quite kindly disposed to Diana.

That's awful hmb, I hadn't seen that, what a dreadful choice of words.

The bbc isn't doing very well today- I'm moaning about them on another thread.

hmb · 12/07/2004 22:41

I thought it was a wonderful picture but a crap choice of words. She deserved better tbh

Davros · 13/07/2004 15:17

I remember her at the opening of the Princess Diana playground as Rosa Monckton opened it.

Fio2 · 13/07/2004 15:19

Interestingly enough on my dd's entry papers to her specialist nursery in kent it said

"what does your child suffer from?"

I put N/A

The teacher even laughed and said she had been trying to get the council to change it for years and if we all start putting N/A they will have to.

Jimjams · 13/07/2004 15:21

Fio you shoudl have out "she doesn't- but I suffer from having to deal with all you workshy council officials"

Fio2 · 13/07/2004 15:23

ROFL!Grin

SoupDragon · 13/07/2004 15:26

The BBC article is from 2000 when the playground with the pirate ship opened. She was 5 then.

I saw the picture and wondered whether she had Down's Syndrome, didn't know. Made me think, wonder if that is the first time someone with DS has been on the front page of a newspaper, and not for a reason that has anything at all to do with her syndrome? good for them.
