So, after years of asking if dd can have an EHCP, school have decided it's time to apply .... all because she's been unable to attend for 2 weeks due to stress and anxiety Hmm
They've also made a referral to SALT regarding her selective mutism, again, because she's been unable to attend school.

I feel it's so wrong that it has taken her to not attend before they'd finally do anything further for her. Gripe over, I'm trying to stay positive.

She has seen SALT but we've not had report yet, she's seen educational psychologist as a sideline/prelim to asking for EHCP assessment. Again, not got report yet.

Now, down to why I'm posting .... Senco has emailed me a short form to complete ready to go in with EHCP application, there's also a very short form for dd to fill in. The form asks what we think dd's strengths are, what she's good at, what we think will make school better for her, what her health issues are. How brief or lengthy to I need to be?? I don't want to get this wrong! Do I mention all her conditions, not just autism? I really want to get this right ... she's now in year 9 so I don't have a second chance!

Hi we've just been through ehc process. The box on the form is short but don't restrict yourself to that, attach as much information as you possibly can. I had some A4 sheets on mine (I'm sure they were thrilled to receive them )

I included information from OT we'd paid for privately and this was used in ehc. Think about all the different areas which may affect your dd- you mention SALT. Any sensory needs? Social understanding? Communication skills? Medical needs? Equipment she uses, even if it's just a pencil grip.

Obviously be honest but present your Dd on her worst possible day, it's not a nice process sorry! What does she need that school can't provide?

I was told that they only really take notice of professional opinions but I ignored that and gave a very detailed report including examples.

They weren't actually interested in the child's account or of my ds's strenghts, so I spent about 5 mins filling that but out. I guess it might be different where you are.

Really, really go for it and be pushy. Include everything- any concerns you have at all. Good luck : )
