Morning All
We will shortly be relocating from London back to Leeds (Horsforth area) with our (soon to be) 3 year old son.
Our son has recently received a diagnosis for autism and I'm struggling as to where to start with regards to finding out what support there is locally both in an educational and social sense.
I have posted on the local Leeds Mumsnet page but was keen to get some general advice from those who have had a similar experience.
I have also explored the NAS website however unfortunately the online forum is currently out of action.
Any particular recommendations /advice when exploring SEN support in a new area? What in particular should I be asking/looking for when speaking to potential nurseries /schools? Can anyone recommend any support groups / resources etc that have proved useful? I have already submitted a request for an ECH assessment and we should hear back on this prior to us moving.

Any guidance and/or advice would be gratefully received.
Best Wishes

And this

may be useful

When looking at schools we looked for one where firstly DS3 (ASD) would be welcome (a task in itself) and where staff were willing and happy to work with us to meet his needs. DS is in yr1 mainstream after a very gentle transition in reception. He didn't have an EHCP finalised until nearly the end of reception but all staff worked so hard in the meantime to make school manageable for him. He now has 1:1 support for most of the day. His reception teacher didn't have much experience at all with children with ASD but it didn't matter because she put so much into understanding him and helping him

I think understanding staff and a willingness to put the right and timely support in would be the key things I'd be looking for from nursery/school

Best of luck with the move. I hope the EHC assessment is carried out without you needing to appeal
