Unpaid parental leave and disability

Dd is due to start school in September. We're finally, after a year, due to get support regarding ongoing stomach/bowel issues that have resulted in, at times uncontrollable incontinence.

I need to be available to liaise with the school when she starts for her settling in, as it could be a very difficult time for her. She'll have a care plan and the senco seems really good. I know I can take unpaid parental leave but I want to use the days when best to so I don't run out of them and annual leave. I'm returning to work from maternity leave earlier so I can finance the unpaid time off.
I read that single days could be taken with children with a disability. Would her situation qualify? If she would qualify as disabled in these circumstances would employers generally require some type of proof?

Where I work the child needs to be in receipt of DLA to qualify. Probably worth checking your HR policies.

You're allowed up to 18 weeks of unpaid parental leave for all children up until the age of 18: www.gov.uk/parental-leave/entitlement

I don't know whether you're entitled to extra weeks if your child has a disability. I don't work in a FT job any more because of it :)

She won't need me for the whole week as DH can do some of the days. I'm worried about using all the parental leave up when she might need time in hospital and to go to further appointments later. If I can take the time individually as days it will help me support her so much better.

I'm in the same boat, watching this with interest.
Good luck for September x

your better off just talking to your employer.

mine for example has never given me a limit that i can take and i can just take 2 hours leave if i need to leave a couple of hours early, i dont have to take a whole day like the gov website says.
