Full moon

And ds1 is away with the faries! He can't even sit down (not even at school) he drops to his knees and arches his back over and over again. Horrible to watch actually looks like a seizure. His LSA has kept a diary of when he's like this and reckons it ties in with full moons.

Aparently the other 2 children in his school on the autistic spectrum are completely off the wall this week as well.

My friend bought him a moonstone - but it doesn't seem to be working

My friend with two NT kids swore their behaviour was worse when tere was a full moon. Perhaps that caused my dds blinding tantrum yesterday

Davros · 06/07/2004 10:46

I've wondered about this a lot in the past (seriously) but not enough to make any notes so don't know if its real or just something I latch on to! My DS is actually pretty good at the moment (touch wood!).

Jimjams · 06/07/2004 12:42

Oh I think there's definitely somthing in it. It is where the word lunatic comes from after all. And lunatic is what he is (well what we frequently call him- we call ds2 a lunatic as well as he is completely insane).

My friend's dd always responds more strongly than ds1- but this month he really seems away with it. Still back arching and shaking this morning. I've always thought it might be food related but never been able to pin anything down- so am going to watch to see if it does tie in with full moons.

fwiw, i always feel really crap on a full moon...definitely think there is something in it...

mrsforgetful · 06/07/2004 15:37

AND i HAVE BEEN AWAY WITH THE FAIRIES TOO THIS WEEK....I HAVE REVERSED THE CAR TWICE WITHOUT CHECKING BEHIND ME....AND HAD VIVID DREAMS....YEP! THE MOON AFFECTS ME!

jema · 06/07/2004 15:50

bit of info that might tie in, cant find the data book- so from memory- there are different "strengths " (cant rem terminology) of full moon, at the present we've just passed the longest day, so the full moon at this time has a more powerfull gravitional effect on the earth, moreso than in one months time, the strongest points in the year are shortest/ longest day & equal day / night- the effect to the earth actually follows 1-2 days after the visible full moon- thats how you can tell if they are really affected by the forces ( grav & em rad) of the moon or just play along with the sight of the full moon - sound crazy, I'm not the local nutter- it affects the tides on the sea - height & currents, I'm an ex (and v rusty )navigator so had to use all this BC- check it out on one of the science web sites

Jimjams, I'm not a regular on the SN boards but just had to mention that I used to work for SS (in Adults with LD division, as it was called then). My then boss who was the Countywide head of LD services for Adults used to run a residential home for children and teens with LD/SN and he agrees with the full moon theory. He said that without fail the majority of the kids would be climbing the walls. There must be something in it....

Jimjams · 06/07/2004 17:21

jema THANK YOU!!! I've been wondering that as ds1 wasn't that bad last month- much worse this month. Am waiting to see if all the back arching and twitching goes away next week......(I think the full moon is `friday?) My friend's dd who is more sensitive than my son started going on Monday, ds1 on Tuesday....

i know the moon affects tides etc, and considering a vast majority of the human body is fluid its no surprise people are affected by the moon.

karenanne · 06/07/2004 21:15

i dont have or know any sn children but some of the mums and teachers at dds playgroup this morning were having this exact conversation ..whilst waiting to go into school this morning the kids were more excitable than usual and a couple of arguements broke out between them .the teachers said theyve noticed its gradually got worse over this week .we laughed about it being a full moon and as a pagan am aware its the nearest full moon to the summer solstice.i wondered if it had anything to do with ...glad its not just us thinking this, some proper research should be done into this!

Caroline5 · 06/07/2004 21:38

Which day was the actual full moon? For no reason at all (ie no PMT etc!!) I was in the foulest mood on Tuesday evening, the next day this had passed off! dd1 has also been a bit wild the last couple of days, I think I've noticed her behaviour go a bit weird around full moons.

Fio2 · 06/07/2004 21:41

its this friday I think caroline, so tommorrow. I am not stalking you honest!Smile

Caroline5 · 06/07/2004 21:42

Oh well, that's my theory out the window then!

Fio2 · 06/07/2004 21:43

that is if I am right though caroline which usually I am not!Grin

List of full moons for the rest of the year:

Today!
Sat 31 July (Blue Moon, may have more effect)
Sun 29 August
Tues 28 September
Weds 27 October
Fri 26 November
Sun 26 December

Thought a bit of advance warning might help!

coppertop · 07/07/2004 13:23

Bizarrely ds1 seems to be the only one who hasn't been affected this time around (touchwood!). I've turned into a screaming harridan, dh has been acting as though he's suddenly been struck down by premature senility, and I keep expecting to see little devil horns sprouting from beneath ds2's curls.

I shall be making a note of those other dates though...

Rebi · 07/07/2004 13:38

Really really wierd. My ds has been acting very strangely for the last 3 days and we haven't been able to put our finger on any particular reason. Have taken a note of future dates! Will be very interesting to see.
