Re: Help with Orthopedic shoes

Hi Everyone,

My daughter is 4 years and has mild CP and uses orthopedic shoes. The main brand we are using in Denmark (where we are based) is Piedro, which makes such hideous sandals. Every Spring when we need to buy shoes for the little girl, I go through a stressed and depressed stage just looking at her feet in oversized, high-top leather sandals that she constantly trips over.

Does anyone have any recommendations for shoes we may be able to buy with the required ankle support that she would need and which are pleasant-looking?

I asked the same question on a Facebook group! The consensus seemed to be Ecco sandals - I have ordered a pair, they haven't arrived yet so I can't comment on the fit but they don't look look too bad. They also sell them on Amazon.

I totally agree, the Piedro sandals look awful!

I've bought Superfit Freddy sandals for my DS for the past couple of summers. I think the girls' version is called Superfit Fanni! They have closed toes are quite high around the ankle, so offer more support, although obviously not as much as the Piedros.

I am going to look into the options you mentioned. It is so disconcerting that we have made strides in technology and fashoion, etc, but we cannot improve on shoes for kids who need that extra bit of support and rather relegate them to being 'different' with clunky, fugly (functional but ugly) shoes.

These seem possibly more sturdy, especially those with the 'high tops' bit.

Do you know if the heel and the ankle area is sort of stiff-ish similarly to that of Piedro?
