My sons eyes often 'wander' this started at the onset of seizures. I know he can see as opens his mouth when the spoon is coming and imitates things back to you but wonder if his vision is someway impaired??

I think electrodiagnosticstics, is state of the art! Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) has a good explanation on electrodiagnostics for babies. I cant do link as barely computor literate, but go to GOSH web site, into clinical services, into ophthalmology, and it should get you there. Hope this helps!

lourobert, they can do basic tests on a baby's vision as soon as they can turn their head deliberately to look at something - just get a referral to your local hospital opthalomolgy dept (preferably one with a paediatric dept). If he's eating solids he's plenty big enough.

lourobert, sorry just realised my message sounded so blunt. You sound so worried about your baby, and if the wandering eyes have only started since his siesures you must be really concened. Vision can be assessed by simple methods even in quite young babes by watching their responses, to for instance black and white grids, (if the child is able to see the pattern they usually look at it for a moment) As I understand it babies develop coordination between their two eyes between about 6 and 24 months, so your little one may just be at that stage where coordination is still developing but not yet perfectly controlled. Perhaps your GP could organise a suitable eye test for him. It sounds like he can see, so I would not worry too much just yet. Hope this helps.

Mago- i didnt tkae you post as blunt at all and I looked a the GOSh webiste and printed some stuff off....! How interesting that the gap between babies developing coordination between both eyes is so large 6-24 months a a big gap.

I know my ds can see but just want to know how well I suppose so I can adapt my play iwth him or lean how to help him more effectively.

A viual specialist sees him at nursery and I called her today regarding getting some tests sorted and also to ask her her thoughts on my sons sight.

I belong to a yahoo support group for Infanitle spasms and Ive been given some very useful info on eyes and seizures which ive also printed off.....!

Hi Lourbert. Glad youre getting some expert advice! Sorry called your ds her- was being attacked by laughing Captain Hook at the time! Hope all is well with Ds vision and eye movements.

I know my ds can see- he followed his dummy yesterday when I held it and he follows his loaded spoon whilst opening his mouth. I hope there arn't any problems with his sight but I would be totally heartbroken if he did have a slight impairment, just as long as he stops having sezuires........................which I would like to add havent occured now for 4 weeks (touch wood) hope i havent jinxed it by saying that.

thanks for your input Magso
