Our little 3 4 yo ds has severe speech delay and is going through the referral process for asd. SALT only sees him every 6 months and has not changed the strategy...neither has ds progressed much.
We found the Gemiini program online.
Does anyone uses it? Is it any good?
We haven't found that many reviews online...
Thanks for any help

Dear Notsoold

Wondering if you opted to register with Gemiini. I am in the process of doing so and really confused for the lack of external reviews. thanks in advance

We tried it - DS not interested in videos so we gave up but might try again in future.

A little tip though - (normal price is $98 pm) sign up for 7 day free trial - cancel at end of 7 days. You'll get an email offering you first month for 1p and following months at $29.

We haven't tried it yet, but one of my DD's speech therapists recommends it and I know parents who swear by it. (I'm just waiting to get a new iPad, and then we'll dive in!)

Just make sure you keep an eye on the subscription, I signed up for the free period, for way laid on some other stuff we were doing and realised I was trying to do too much at once but forgot to cancel the DD and paid £89 😩

thanks so much for the tip regarding cancellation at the end of free trial.!! We are soooo desperate. at rsk of loosing jobs as the stress is unbearable at times. More than him is the frustrationof ot being able to help him. I would give everything to forward the time and see him for 5 mins at 12 years old so i can go back and either relax or accept. zzzzz how different is your DS, does he have friends at shool? Im sorry I guess I just need someone to talk to. thanks in advance

soooo glad to hear that zzzzz. I hope for a statement like yours in the future. I will give gemiini a go. are you in the US or UK? My DS is academically above average which is a real plus but activities such as football or sports in general are a real mess I am looking into things that require memory use as he is good with that maybe piano. I am a full time worker too luckily flexible so I can work around him and although very happy I am also exhausted. Our 4 year old has been our best therapist as he understands his brother and looks up to him. Sometimes I worry I lay too ,uch pressure on him, I am working on that so I can devote time to him too. He is a sweet clever little guy.

Never heard of this programme. Looked at the website but still not sure what it actually does. It would of been great if the owner showed a version of this video modelling.

DS NHS speech therapist didn't do much for him. Though it helped me understood and developed DS play skills, which helped him and he was then able to transfer these skills outside. DS goes to a specialist language school and that was the breakthrough in which he began to talk, so speech therapy did help him talk.

DS currently sees a private SLT who specialises in Autism. The different between her expertise and what we had on the NHS were vastly wide apart. She taught me how to write and use social stories... language structures...attention autism..helping DS understand social idioms etc etc. This helped DS enormously.

What helped DS even more ( and I wished I discovered this when he was very young) was using a high tec assistive technology device...he uses a certain programme... using this device and using an approach called "aided language stimulation" motivated DS to talk even more. The device was just the foundation... I had to model words through out the day (Aided language stimulation) in certain scenarios...e:g. If DS want to get a biscuit on top of the fridge... I would model on his device and say "I want biscuit". If DS is enjoying his drink... I will then model with facial expressions and body language " I like this drink" it's repetitive and they advise to model as much as possible and oh boy... DS doesn't use the device but he has picked up so much language from home by modelling.

I have posted some links :

The two videos are about a family who were initially hesitant to use an AAC but saw the impact it has made to their daughter.

Hope this helps !
