Extra time for assessments

Hello my ds gets 25% extra time for exams / assessments. He has a hemiplegia and has difficulties with pace and processing. On a recent class assessment he didn't finish. How do I go about getting him more time, the school said they have never heard of more time being given. I do remember a parent saying their child got 40% extra.
Not sure who to contact or what I need to do next.
Any advice would be great.

I've a feeling 25% is the maximum but do check JCQ regulations. Bear in mind that some gcse exams are 2-3 hours long, can be more than one a day so actually extra time means less opportunity for breaks and refocussing. Maybe he'd be better with rest breaks?

In special cases you can apply for up to 50% extra time on a board-by- board basis if assessments have shown this to be needed.

What assessments are needed do they have a name and who does these?

Not sure if you found out the answer to your question already, but thought I'd answer just in case.
It may be that with a diagnosis of hemiplegia your son doesn't need any extra tests, just a letter from his doctor to say that his hemilegia means it would take him substantially longer to complete an exam. If he does need other tests, the school should be able to tell you who does these. It needs to be someone qualified in assessing for access arrangements. This can be a teacher who has completed this qualification, or someone the school pays to come in (like an educational psychologist). The school SENCo should know who this is. Also, there is no limit on the amount of extra time possible, but I've never heard of anyone needing over 50%. It might be worth considering rest breaks like the other poster suggested, or use of a laptop if that would help your son complete the exam more quickly.
