They have a cancellation, so ds2 is going in for his first botox on the 8th march. Pre op assessment on monday. Now i am getting all emotional about it, which is so unlike me.

But with the poss bankruptcy and exh being no help, my bf emigrating and the 8th march also being the anniversary of my mother dying, i feel stressed, so it's gonna be tough.

Four weeks of intensive physio as well , afterwards. Poor little mite.

And a slim chance of it working. But any chance is a chance yes?

Really? I sent ds the next day!! What is the reason to wait until Monday, if you don't mind me asking?

lou33 · 05/03/2007 21:29

because of the ga he said

Sorry Lou have only just been directed here by misdee.
Ds has had 5 lots of Botox, 4 lots under a sedation and 1 lot under a GA. I did send him back to school the next day because they normally use a light GA.
Ds was unaware that anything had happened, except the last one because he was injected in his hip.
The physio that follows is hard work, DS was put into plaster case following his 3rd and 4th lot which gave a constane (sp?) stretch for 2 weeks.
If you have any questions shout!!

lou33 · 05/03/2007 23:16

did he have them in his hamstrings?

when did he start having them, because ds2 is really getting to the upper age limit to be starting botox?

i was hoping you would see this

i managed to get childcare sorted for my middle two the night before, and dd1 can get herself up and out to school on her own, being nearly 15

OP posts:
SparklyGothKat · 05/03/2007 23:29

Yes he has had them in his hamstrings every time. Your DS will not remember having the injections, its harder for the parents. DS had them done from the age of 4. But the last lot in 2006 didn't work so we are going to GOSH on wednesday to discuss surgery [worried]

lou33 · 05/03/2007 23:42

oh good luck with that, will you let me know what the outcome is?

it's something they have mentioned to us, but then they have also said ds will make a good life for himself in a wheelchair, but they changed their minds and agreed to botox

ds is 6 now, so its quite a bit later than when your lo started, but now he is so tight we have to try something

OP posts:
SparklyGothKat · 05/03/2007 23:46

Botox is a good option, if you don't want to go down the surgery route. Because Ds is quite mobile, but very tight, they have said that if they don't do surgery soon, he will lose his ability to walk by the age of 13, and because he is so active, it would be a shame to let it get to that stage.

lou33 · 06/03/2007 13:38

the muscles for ds are so tight he cant straighten his legs enough to stand, so we need to try, or he will soon be permanently confined to a wheelchair

he was great, and is currently playing with his brother before bedtime

i, otoh am bloody knackered!

OP posts:
SparklyGothKat · 08/03/2007 21:03

Was it as hard as you thought though? I think I found the GA the worse part tbh.

twoisplenty · 08/03/2007 21:07

Lovely news that it all went well! And I remember that I was far more tired than my ds after his botox!!

lou33 · 08/03/2007 21:53

i found the hardest bit going in and seeing him in recovery

tho i also had to laugh at hearing him snore

OP posts:
lou33 · 12/03/2007 12:59

update!

it's day 4 today, i was getting him ready for school and his legs seemed much less tight, i could almost get them straight!

we had an appointment with his physio this morning at his school, which was the first time she had seen him since his botox, and she was really pleased

there has been a better effect than i ever expected, and a lot sooner than any of us thought, so now he can be stretched we need to strengthen the muscles he has been unable to use properly, to get him standing

i'm so proud of him

coppertop · 12/03/2007 13:31

lou33 · 12/03/2007 13:35
