Stupid things people say

Probably done this one but I need to horrified laughing.
My gem is someone holding a 2 yo who was tugging at her hair and looking at DD (quadraplegic cerebral palsy with no movement) and saying 'you're so lucky she doesn't do this'
Thats me. Lucky.
Ahem.

Some of these comments have had me drawing breath in shock but bobalinga I would love to be a fly on the wall around you sometimes - and wannabe - rofl at your sister!

But the underlying point is - how sad that some people are so crass, really, in addition to all the other difficulties you face

I think thats why it is important to keep a healthy sense of humour. Most things aren't said maliciously but thoughtlessly. Of course, its up to each individual about how much crassness they can take from a particuarly dense friend.
When DD was about 18 months I did go through an 'angry' phase where I took every comment to heart and hated people for syaing something and then hated them if they didn't! I still bristle at stares though. But you can't stay angry or it spoils your life. This crappy thing has happenend and the only thing you can change is your attitude towards it. hence a sense of humour.
I have had malicious comments and wont put up with them (a 10 stone wheelchair on someone's foot generally sorts them out) but tactlessness I tend to ignore or make a funny. And I must admit to enjoying shokcing people (I ain't gonna go to heaven, thats for sure!) by being un-PC. When me and my friend who also has a child with CP go out we quite enjoy saying 'hey lady, het your wheelchair out of my way!' and other such things to the horror of on-llookers who don't realise we are together.
When DD gets her communication aid I'll be sure to program some un-PC things in it for her to 'say' ;)
And Wannabe....I do say things like, least she doesn't run off like my other kids did or, she ain't gonna run away from home when she's a teenager!
She my good girl.
