How Much 1:1

My daughter has been diagnosed with asd and suffers from sensory problems and anxiety. We feel that when an EHCP is in place, she would benefit from a full time 1:1. The professionals however think that it will do her more harm than good having a full time 1:1. Any advice?

It's one of those where everyone will be different. There isn't a one size fits all.

It depends on the quality of the 1:1.

It is often quoted that full time 1:1 will breed dependence and reliance on prompting, etc, but 1:1 does not necessarily have to lead to either of those things.

If you feel your dd needs 1:1, you are going to have to prove that it is needed.

It is possible. My dd has full time 1:1, and has done since she was 6 - she is in secondary school now.

But as Sirzy says, it isn't one size fits all.

Why do they think it will do her more harm, than good?

It's a case of she either needs it or she doesn't!

Any good 1:1 would be teaching your dd to be independent, once she has been taught how to
