Look East has just featured a story about a 7 year old girl whose parents are fighting the LEA (Bedfordshire I think) to get her in to a special needs school.
her local mixed ability school has been frequently restraining her, I think it quoted 45 recorded restraints in the first 6 weeks?

It will be discussed again on the Politics show on Sunday at midday.

Oh - we had this. Frist annual reveiw for ds1 the mainstream school asked for..... restraint training, Not PECS training, not ASD training, not behavioural management training. Nope. Restraint training. He was 5 years old. It was then that I decided he had to move schools!

She is a beautiful little girl, but with limited understanding & communication & I imagine from the way her mother spoke struggling at ms & spending much of the time being restrained.
It is so annoying that everything is a battle.

last night the story as about a 6 year old with downs syndrome not waking whose parents have been told they will have to wait 12 months for awheelcahir assessment & have advised him to buy his own! Unbelievable.

Oh similar wheechair story in our local paper. A very severely disabled child having to wait 18 months for a new chair, despite having outgrown her previous one- the corret chair being absolutely necessary to prevent phsycial injury. It's a disgrace.

What amazes me are the regional differences, here in Suffolk there is no waiting list for wheelchair services, ds's major was delivered within 2 weeks of mentioning it to the OT.

Over the border in Norfolk the wait is at least 12 months just for an assessment. Lack of mobility has such a huge impact on family life & as you say in some cases poor positioning can lead to more severe complications

Someone needs a good kick up the A*.

We are thinking of leaving the country because of stories like this and our son having to go through that.
