Talk to me about Vitamins

Do any of you give vitamins? Did you notice an improvement in behaviour and concentration?

I started to look into wether my ds1 who has joint hyper mobility and hypertonia (not formally diagnosed yet but a dead cert) and possible asd and possible dyspraxia could benefit from taking something.

He has complained of mouth ulcers for ages and I've seen that magnesium could help with this.

Really interested to hear people's thoughts on this.

He does eat well and has a healthy diet generally speaking but he has suffered with loose stools since babyhood in varying degrees of severity. So perhaps his absorption of vitamins has been poor due to this.

Not an expert, so can only talk about my own experiences, but here goes. My daughter is gluten and dairy free, which has made a big difference to her (but obviously doesn't everyone). I am also gf and df, and take digestive enzymes, which reduce my symptoms hugely. However, if you suspect that your son is deficient in anything, it's probably best to start by getting his levels checked by a GP.

Neither myself or my daughter have been formally diagnosed yet, by the way.

Hi op

Both DD and DS are on the spectrum, hypermobile and coeliac

There is a direct genetic link with hypermobility and coeliac disease, I too am coeliac and hyper mobile, dad is on the spectrum!

Ulcers are actually often a sign of low folate, certainly here if they've missed their folate for a while back they come

We also have associated MTHFR gene problems which lead to folate dysregulation and difficulty building base enzymes

Both kids and adults take 5htp and this has really been a game changer, magnesium zinc folate (not folic acid) methyl B12 and b6 as advised by my fab nutritionist who has an interest in this group of conditions

Oh wow! Thank you for that info, I'm definitely going to investigate this on his behalf.

We have big eating problems here so DS is on a prescription supplement: Seravit.

Before that we used Floradix Kindervital liquid multivitamin. A nice product with relatively few artificial additives.

We still use Vegepa Chewable Fish Oil capsules - 3 per day.

Everything gets blended into a smoothie.

Occasionally I also given them a probiotic in a chocolate ball from Holland & Barret

Sorry - it's years ago when we started but I faintly remember behaviour improved
