6yo DS developed tics

My 6yo has started to have tics, it's been a month or so now. Prior to that it was verbal tics, grunts and coughs, but has developed into neck twisting, finger clicking and foot rubbing. should I be worried or I this a phase?

Academically he is very bright, excellent at maths, English reading etc. He has a close knit group of friends, so socially does well. Although he is shy, he's happy to try new things like Beavers, which he loves.

He was diagnosed with selective mutism prior to reception, but has a wonderfully supportive school who have worked really well with him.

He loves routine, and we plan the next day in bed each night, so he knows what he's doing. He's a stickler for rules, and has a keen sence of right and wrong.

If it wasn't for the tics, I'd have no other concerns. I'm just worried that they may develop further, and worried about bullying as he goes further up the school, and the ethos is less 'nurturing'.

If I went to the docs would I be laughed out of there? I'm quite aware this is mild compared to some children. I certainly don't want any medication for him, could he just grow out of the tics?

As far as I know it is possible to grow out of ticks.

My 6 yo dd developed tics last year during y1. She has 3 or 4. I'm still under a hv for her youngest sibling & I asked her about it. Apparently 5 & 6 is a common age to develop them and in many cases they start to go during the teenage years. They don't impact her life too much & school are aware of them.
