Carer's allowance and tax credits

Forgive me if this has been done to death...

We have just started claiming DLA for DS. He gets middle rate care. We also get child tax credits, which has just increased due to his DLA payments.

A friend informed me that I'm probably eligible for carer's allowance but that it can affect tax credits. Is it worth applying for this, or will I lose more than I will gain? Thanks.

Yes, carer's will increase your income for tax credit purposes, hence reducing your tax credits award, but you won't lose tax credits pound for pound, so will still be better off.
