Took some data today- 100% at table trials.

Also been messing around and blowing raspberries etc Tonight I blew him some kisses at bedtime and he blew them back

Bloody hell - this is probably his biggest achiemevement since the day he was born. Imitation - wow- I never thought he would get it.

Wow, sweetest blown kisses you've ever recieved

100% at table trials, what does that mean?

Jimjams2 · 11/02/2007 00:01

Imitation forms a bit part of his ABA sessions. So at the table he's given repeated trials - his tutor says "do this" and he has to copy whatever she does. He scored 100% The only thing he got wrong was that when she said "ba ba ba" he was saying "Ba ya ya" but yesterday he was just saying "ba" so he's trying- just can't articulate it properly.

congratulations jimjams
we're celebrating the shockingingly uneventful trip to the barbers ds1 had today!

macwoozy · 11/02/2007 00:09

Were you expecting such a high score, well maybe not 100%!! That's terrific.

Jimjams2 · 11/02/2007 00:11

pmsl luckylady. DS1 has his hair cut at school now thank god.

I don;t know macwoozy- a lot of it today that grabbed me was in the mucking around sessions. I was snoring and things and he was really trying hard to copy me.

Hurray, JJ!

Glad to hear it!

Now you'll need to watch your language .

Jimjams2 · 11/02/2007 00:14

ah well luckily he still has very bad verbal dyspraxia, so we're safe for the moment (although not from ds2 or ds3!)

Wow! Well done to ds1.

Davros · 11/02/2007 13:09

Wow, that's fantastic. I think he isn't just imitating but its also wanting to interact with you which is brillifant (as DD would say!). I remember the issue of imitation being one of the first things we talked about on MN..... how long ago? With DS I find that, if I engage him and get his eye contact and then do something he will just do it most of the time, this is how I get him to open his mouth for toothbrushing, I don't say "do this" or "open mouth" I just open mine and his pops open! It is a great skill for all sorts of things and really fundamental.

sphil · 11/02/2007 13:17

That's great . And how funny - we were doing snoring this morning too. Spooky! Got it on video for GM (and you!) - along with my 37 double chins...

DS2 still only imitates when he wants to though - can get 80% at vocal imitation in table trials on a good day and then just stares at me blankly the next. And still can't imitate gross motor skills at all (except clapping).

Blandmum · 11/02/2007 13:21

Fantastic jimjams!

This is ever more proof that the inclusion you were offered was nothing of the sort!

Bloody well done ds1 and bloody well done you!

Dottydot · 11/02/2007 13:44

Jimjams -that's brilliant - really pleased for you all!

SoupDragon · 11/02/2007 14:02

Fabulous!!

Blossomhill · 11/02/2007 14:54

great news!

Jimjams2 · 11/02/2007 15:36

yes davros- we''ve just got to that stage, it's great I was sitting on a chair with him waiting for the bus on Friday and was pulling funny faces and making noises and and he was just doing it back and laughing- no "do this"- then he was copying the tweenies in a marching song.

You're right- it's been years. We started teaching it formally (thanks to you) way before ds3 was born- before I was even pregnant with him. Then he learned to do trials (hand over hand teaching)- so could do the fixed ones at the table, but he didn't really "get" the whole concept iykwim- and we couldn't do anything that couldn't be physically prompted (even opening mouth say was to difficult to prompt).

The years of work have been worth it- it already makes so many things easier.

BTW Davros I've been trying to email you........ (my email has been doing weird things recently). I'll try again later tonight, actually I'll try again now.

Oh Jimjams, I'm so pleased. I know it sounded a bit hopeful recently but that's a huge step forward. Blow him a kiss from me too

Twiglett · 11/02/2007 15:39

oh JimJams .. how fabulous

he blew you kisses back

Jimjams2 · 11/02/2007 16:46

yep (and wrt another thread) it doesn't matter that it took whole packets of chocolate buttons and loads of shaping and tangible reinforcement to get there. Still meant as much as the first time ds2 and ds3 did it
