Tax meeting EHCP

Morning,

We are currently in week 14 of a EHCP for dd who is 8, at the end of this week there is a TAC meeting with the senco, ot, camhs and myself as well as the ed physc.

I would just like to know how these meetings go and what happens at them. I'm a little nervous that it's me against them iyswim.

Do you normally have TAC meetings and is your EHC officer attending?

Just wondering if this is what my LA are calling an Advice providers meeting where everyone involved in providing reports for the Ehc assessment gets together to go through their reports.

I have been told that not all LA's have these but they could all be called different things!

Yes, the meeting is for all the people who have supplied reports on dd.

We are lucky that the EHC assessment coordinator we were given is the EP dd has seen at school.

We've had one of those. We basically went through the EHCP request doc (our council has a long form), agreed changes to the needs and the worked on outcomes and provision needed for the outcome. It was all quite good natured and collegiate and professionals inputted into their bits. Someone was typing as we were talking and the doc formed basis for draft plan. Good luck!

We have had several TAC meetings over the years and never once has CAMHS, SALT or the Community Pasdiatrician turned up so be prepared for non attendance. It is easy to be overwhelmed. Work out before any points you want to make so you can ensure they are covered and if you can go accompanied by a friend or relation. If it is part of the EHCP process then I would guess the LA SEN case team officer will attend but do check they are invited if it is a meeting school arranged as this helps them write a better EHCP.

Print off a copy of paragraph 9.69 of the Code of Practice and go to the meeting with it. Where it doesn't comply - particularly if provision is vague and waffly, or where it doesn't meet your child's needs - call them out on it and quote the Code. Also make sure you're completely on top of the advice on IPSEA's website - www.ipsea.org.uk/what-you-need-to-know/ehc-plans.

I would suggest taking a friend to make notes, and circulate your own version of the minutes - including recommended changes to the EHCP - ASAP.

I think its called "Coproduction"!! Not many LA's have completely grasped the concept but at least yours are giving it a go!

I have been sent a document which I presume is what we will go through in the meeting this time it has been called a planning meeting in the Email.

I feel very nervous about the meeting not sure why?

I think this is what our borough calls a 'multi-agency meeting'. Ours was chaired by the EP who had done the assessment for the EHCP, our coordinator was taking notes and there were several other professionals involved in DD's care as well as someone from school.
It was very professional, very good natured, everyone commented on the draft document and additional notes were made with action points going forward. DD wasn't present for the whole meeting but was able to come in and add her views. It was typed up as we went by our EHCP coordinator and she circulated a copy for comments soon after the meeting.
It was one of the better experiences in a long and drawn out process! I do remember feeling very nervous beforehand though. I hope yours goes well

Just back from the meeting and it was exactly as you described Melawati.

It will go to the panel next week and we should know by Friday, fingers crossed really scared now dd needs this.

I'm wondering how high the % is of people turned down.

I think all LAs handle things slightly differently, but I was told that in ours if it gets to the stage of a draft being sent to panel they are rarely refused altogether but may be subject to change.

Great news, pointless! Sorry can't help on banding as DD's just named the type of provision (specialist) and then the school.

Banding is a local thing, and will vary between areas. Ask your LA what they mean.

In any event, provision shouldn't be defined by banding levels. Your child is entitled to the support set out in section F irrespective of the amount of money allocated to the statement, which is why you need to make sure the support is properly specified and detailed so that you can enforce it if necessary.
