Feel so mixed up about this. On the one hand I'm glad I'm not a crazy woman for thinking there was something wrong for my DS, but on the other hand I'm so upset for DS & even though I knew there was something wrong, I feel shocked by the unequivical diagnosis.
Also realise I have a steep learning curve ahead. Please other ASD/Aspergers mums talk to me.

You can get those cards from the National Autistic Society. I only ever handed them out once, on a train when DS1 had a meltdown and there were two great bookend cows in the adjacent seats who were laughing at him .

Ooh, I just want to drive a stake through their hearts on your ds's behalf Dino. And if they could produce children you know they wouldn't hold a candle to your son.
There are some horrible people in the world, some, sadly, on Mumsnet (not on this thread, of course!). I don't think ds would be a better child without his Aspergers, however.

Well, I do appreciate that it can be difficult (especially if you are an ignorant type!) to distinguish a full-scale autie meltdown from a normal toddler tantrum, but frankly I wouldn't laugh at any child's distress, no matter what I thought or presumed was the cause.

It's just so unbelievably rude - as well as stupid and callous.

But then in the aftermath we had a really good discussion on here about things you could do to help a mum who is on the sharp end of a meltdown, so it's an ill wind etc.

I can't bear those people who video children being upset or hurt and put then on You Tube or whatever, or send them off to You've Been Framed.
I don't laugh at upset children.
Glad you could talk to them though. I hope they were suitable chastened.

Thats horrible Dino. I hope they felt like jerks when you handed those cards.

Dinosaur · 29/03/2007 21:23

Sorry, I meant we had a discussion about it on mumsnet! I didn't talk to the two women, I just handed them the cards. I was on the brink of tears.

Oh dino, that must have been horrible for you, poor you.
