Update on ds3.....

For those who know, DS3 was diagnosed with Autism (a preliminary diagnosis apparently- formal written will be issued at next appointment if no change). It was also recommended that in line with his nursery concerns that he cant cope when he starts school in September, he either repeat nursery year (our preference), or attend the specialist asd unit.

Well we saw the teacher nominted by Ed Psych on wednesday, she says DS3 is ABOVE average for his age! This is clearly wrong, for a start he string tohether three owrds maybe once every 4 or five days. She will not allow him access to the unit (she has to refer) and ahs refused to back an application for support

SALT have been in touch, he is classed as the most urgent case in the OCunty now- and that will mean seeing someone aproximately 3 months after he starts school, as they ahve nobody in SN services atm and cannot recruit anyone.

So we are stuffed, basically!. The CM and my M months less than his age (he is um both estimate a developmental age of btw) and all the nursery form were adding upt o the same. Its eems to be all funding related,a s ever, if ds3 can cope in MS its worth a try for them to save cash- never mind that he regresses when he has a routine change and loses the progress he has made.

Quite disappointed- not surprised, been through this with DS1 but DS3 more needy i think ((and PAed does too). We explained that ds3 only moves forwards in one thing at a time- Ed person says he HAS to move in alla reas now. Like, how?

That amde no sense.

The CM and my MUM estimate an developmental age of 18 months less than his age, which is 3.5.

for you

So did teacher explain what was he doing that makes him above average? Does the Ed Psch not out rank her anyway?
Are you still wanting SN School? If you have one in mind maybe visit and they may know how to get round getting the STatement?

The teacher was in lieu of Ed PSuch, however the Paed says ASD and Paed outranks everybosy- lst time she over ruled them to get DS1 a DX, she can do it again.

Apaprently, they measured his abuilities by watching him in pe (it was the first time they did it, its NORMAL for an ASD kid to be passive first time round! Lots are, from what I've read). Then they did a craft snowman, demonstrated how to make it, left it on the side, did a 1-1 and then let him return and he did it fine.

Now I can only say that is:

  1. A lie or
  2. they did it as a puzzle format, as he can complete puzzles up to 50-60 pieces with no problems.

I spent ages with him this morning gettimng him to simply stamp three foam winnie the pooh shapes- he ahd no concept of a picture, just put them down. And then his attention was at most 3-4 monutes. This school expects prayers / assembly / reading from day 1.

Also, the only pictures nursery manage to send home have two torn pieces of apper glued to a sheet of apper: this is with mainly 1-1 support.
They also say he knows his colours, yet CM and I cannot get him to 'know' this at home. We've tried lots of ways- asking him to pick the red from a pile, show me blue etc etc etc, never has he even got the ocasional one you'd expect as a chance result. Now, CM thought he knew his colours until she relaised she was using a routine and he had just picked that up instead.

Waiting for a call from BIBIC now-

Is there anyway you can contest her decision??

We went through something similar a couple of years ago, an ed pysch came to see DD (who was 3 at the time) and described her Gross motor skills as 'age appropriate', when she still had the gait of a toddler, fell over after a few steps, couldn't climb or step up steps. This was a big deal at the time as DD attends a special needs nursery for physical disabilities (but about 18 miles away) and basically she was saying that DD was taking a place that could be used by someone else with more physical disabilites. She then suggested another school, closer to home. It was when I posted on here that I realised that trying to move DD was more down to LEA policies rather than the best for my DD.

Anyway I went in and saw DD's teacher the next day and she thought that wasn't right and the headmistress said that we could have a place at the school for as long as we wanted.

So it seems that some ed pysch's are not and our side and are not taking the childrens interests at heart.

'not ON our side'

Forgot to add as well, DD's teacher said that there were spare places at her school, so DD was not taking a 'valuable place', ao that was a lie from the EP.

Peachy-sounds like they either tailor made his tasks for him or they ignored the other stuff

Well I went in today to speak to the Nursery teacher. We've decided we have to get ds3 a place at BIBIC, as the Paed is prepared to use their reports as abasis for a written dx, at which point the LEa have to take notice.

Anyway, I went in and the teacher started talking to me about how the outside agencies will do anything they can to get in the wway- and then she halted mid sentence. Just as the Head walked in and just sttod by me . I actually think this head is trying to get revenge for us over riding her with ds1 . She hated it when we got a dx and applied for a statement ourselves.

She was the same one who persuaded the first ed psych that we were responsible for ds1's behaviour (suggestion: lock him in his room) and she is the same lady who has a rep for hating SN kids. If ds3 comesin with a statement she'd have to acknowledge his needs.

So DH and I are wondering whhether to go for another school, we'll have to talk to them (we're out of catchment) and the CM (for drop off arrangements) but I'm sick of this evil bitch and her bizarre behaviour.
