my son 15 months old and has out grown his infant carrier- not by weight bu tny length.

I was looking at the special needs car seat thst Britax do but this does not go rear facing- which I thoguht was really strange being a 'sepcial needs' car seat.

So im looking for a sturdy, rear facing car seat with lots of support and recline.

Any ideas???

What about one of the car seats that goes birth to 4 years? such as this one ?

Do you think that would offer enough support for a child with low tone...?

Do you have an Occupational Therapist who could advise you as to the most suitable one? First Class does recline not sure how far in rearward position but if it is sufficient for a newborn it ought ot be ok.

Lourobert - I'm no expert - I agree it might be worth asking OT if possible to make some suggestions. The other thing I would be doubtful about is how long you could keep it rear facing as your son grows longer without it squashing his legs up, as these seats will be designed on the basis that the child will be forward facing earlier than your son may be.

It might be worth contacting fledglings as I expect they have looked into this before.

My OT is sh*te. Might try contacting her again though....!

Snap lourobert! - started a thread a few days ago. My problem is slightly different in that DD is older but still needs a harness rather than just a booster type seat.
I went into our local Halfords today and found them very helpful....still not much choice though for what we need. Might be worth a visit as it's easier to judge when you can actually see them - better than pictures.
DD had low muscle tone too but was well supported in a decent seat which reclined. Squashed legs weren't a problem as she was small but Saker makes a good point. I've talked to our OT but there doesn't seem to be a great deal of choice.

Ive made an appointment with OT for next week. I was thinking about going to halfords but didnt have a very great experience with mothercare or john lewis so didnt know if it would be worth the trip.

Louis has to go rearward facing due to his poor muscle tone and not being able to hold him head yet but reclining will make him go frog legged as he is fairly tall (weve been doing lots of physio to help him with him legs and ecncourae him to straighten them!)I guess were not often in the car for long periods.

Would just like him sitting up a bit more so he can see out of the window but be well secured and safe.
