How often does your Child miss school?

My DD who's 6 and started P1 in September, has missed between 8 and 12 days per term. Is it alot compared to other children with SN? It is sometimes the odd day or it can be 3 or 4 days in a row. Usually due to Infections, High temp, Joint pain etc.
The school are fine with it, but sometimes write in reports 'due to many absences'.

my dd's sn school will send her home and tell me to keep her off if she "seems" unwell. really winds me up. as they say it is to protect others.
I think all children sn or nt goe through a stage where they pick up everthing that is going. I can remeber ds(sn) going through it. so I wouldn't worry too much.

2shoes- thanks. Her school has sent her home 3 times since she started, with a high temperature. She has epilepsy, which we are unsure whether high temperatures cause the seizures.

snap. we have to give dd calpol if hse shows the slightest sign of a cold. Sometimes she can get a really high temp for no reason and I am told to keep her off.

Last term there seemed to be a lot of viruses and bugs going around. Attendance levels dropped right down for Reception - Year 2 classes.

Last term ds1 missed about 6 days IIRC. It would have been more if his chickenpox had appeared at the beginning of the week rather than towards the end IYSWIM. I think he was sent home once because he felt sick while he was actually at school and missed another day when he just generally felt unwell.

Also, as 2shoes says, when children first start school or even just go back to school after the summer holidays they seem to catch everything all at once.

Thanks Coppertop and 2shoes, it makes me feel better that other children also miss school. I sometimes feel guilty for sending her to school and also guilty for keeping her at home. Because when she is unwell the only symptoms are temp of over 38.5'C

Very, very rarely- once I think, 1 day for ds1 (yr2); ds2 (yr1) neverbut ds3 often misses nursery for appointments etc etc.

I also work as a Menotr in a secondary school, and I need to enquire about absences below 80%, although tbh the only one I have in tyhat category is health reasons and I just tell him faor enough, he's got enough shite without me mucking in.
