Hi Riab

You obviously have done some research into this and have concerns about your son. How old is he?

Certainly some of what you have flagged up could point to autism but you would need to get him assessed by a developmental paed. Have you talked to your HV, GP or anyone about this?

He is 21 months, he has seen a SALT for his speech. But after that visit and a couple of things she raised I began to notice other things. Especially the fact that he does this weird 'zoning' thing

hi

From what you have said, I would ask for a refrral to a PAed, rememberingt hat these quizzes are great for highlighting concerns. Theya re not diagnostic. And even if your child did have Autism it is a wide spectrum of disabilities.

I am going to say this and hope not to upset yu, my DS3 was given a verbal DX yesterday of ASD and the zoning thing (he does it a lot) was one of the things she raised as a significant indicator. She said the key is to find out why he does it: if it is without warning or pattern he needs assessment for Epilepsy; if there's a pattern (DS3 does it after too much social interaction) then its an ASD indicator.

I agree that you should ask for referral to a paed - if nothing else at least you will set your mind at rest. In the meantime do keep coming on to ask any questions or talk about things because it is horrible when you are worrying so much. You just want answers now and it is horrible having to wait for appointments.

I agree with everyone else about asking for a referral. As Saker says, ask as many questions as you need/want on here. The is he/isn't he stage is a difficult one.
