Major rant. People who promise services then don't deliver

OK majorly annoyed today.

School have asked me to take ds1 out of nursery even though he is only going to school part time. I pointed out this meant that he would have nothing to go to during the summer holidays- whereas if he stayed at nursery he would at least have 3 sessions a week. They insisited that he is taken out (last day tomorrow ) and said that I should contact inclusion services to arrange a summer playscheme.

I did this- it's run by ds1's ex portage worker. She promised on the phone that I could get 10 sessions over the summer provising I returned the form ASAP. I returned the form the day after receieving it.

Letter today- due to "huge demand" no money available for ds1. I know one person using it- her son attends a private school with no extra support, and doesn't struggle- he has been assessed and his mother has been told there is nothing wrong with him! And WTF did the ex protage worker promise him a place if she couldn't deliver- doesn't she realise we rely on thigs like that? Both mentally and practically?

So currently we are receiving no servcies. No OT (that's finished) No SALT (maternity leave) NO playscheme, no respite, not even bloody full time school. If ds1 has nowhere to go during the summer holidays I will be unable to go anywhere. I can't go out with both him and ds2. DS2 will have 3 sesssions at nursery a week, but no time with me alone (and one of those sessions is being provided for free because the nursery manager is a superstar). I can take ds1 to some places by himself- but ds2 will not be able to go out at all. I can't go to the supermarket with ds1 as he can't handle it at all now.

Anyway so pissed off I rang SS services today (or at least tried to what a palaver). Am going to ask for direct payments for respite. Does anyone get these- davros? We fit the criteria but SS are in crisis down here so god knows whether we'll get anything.

If we don't ds1 is going to spend his whole summer with his head stuck up the clothes on the washing line. Not good for him, not good for me and not good for ds1.

So f*** off.

Last night's paper carried an advert for ds1's LSA who is needed before he can be in school full time. Interview date 22nd June, which means that if she/he does manage to start before the end of term it will be only just before the end.

I can't believe they made me take him out of nursery before even placing an ad for the LSA. 3 afternoons of nothing is a real problem for us. He is bored, we can't go anywhere and I can't do anything with him as I have ds2 as well.

So question is - how much hassle do we give them about it at school tomorrow? Having observed his refusal to go into the aquarium yesterday they may finally understand why I can't go anywhere when I have both boys.

Haven't heard anything from SS but have been told there will definitely be NO playscheme for him this summer but we MAY get one next year. Well boogaloo. So 6 weeks of being stuck in the house looms. It's no good for ds2 either.

fuck fuck fuck. And they described him as "delightful" in the ad. So that will frighten anyone in the know away.

Too late- he's been taken out so his place has gone.

Also the idea that an autistic child would get confused by 2 settings is laughable really. He's never generalised anything in his life. Nursery is nursery and school is school to him. I think it was just a case of a school flexing its muscles (no-one likes the nursery manager as she says what she thinks, always puts the child first and has no time for politics- parents adore her).

Jim jams, did the school want him taken out of nursery because the money the nursery gets, the school can get till they are 5. but of course, only if the child doesnt go to nursery anymore.?
Im sure your ds is delightful btw, that made me laugh!

Jimjams · 10/06/2004 10:55

No - the money's all seperate. The school gets money for him depending on how many hours he is there- it was agreed with the LEA that it could change weekly.

I told them I had no problem with him coming out of nursery PROVIDING he was in school FULL TIME soon after. They've been saying "oh yes that's fine we just need to appoint another LSA for the last 6 weeks" grrrrr
