DS has serious permanent health issues and he has had a statement all his life. Over the years it has been vital to him coping at school. Now, after lots of operations, being stronger and more independent, you probably wouldn't notice he was any different from his peer group. Luckily over past two years he hasn't had any extended stays in hospitals, its only a matter of time, we just don't know when.
Last year secondary school started converting statement into an EHC plan but as council is so crap its still being processed. They have come back saying that as he has only medical needs and no current educational needs he will have a health plan instead of the EHC. School has never heard of this, and is concerned as even council cannot give any info about it.
I realise he doesn't need or get extra educational help at moment, the EHC doesn't currently cost any money but I am worried about his name coming out that system into one that would not provide for educational needs, when we know he will have them at some stage. Any parent with SN children knows how hard you have to fight to get the help you need, when you need it, from the 'system'.
So any advice on giving up the EHC plan, what should I do? Anyone know what a health plan is?
