Another parking bay rant...Is it true that anyone can park in residential disabled bays because it's 'not an offence'?

our neighbour who regularly parks his car in our bay has just said this in response to dh asking why he constantly parks there with no blue badge. What a total &&&&*

Can't find much info on this but found a london borough which states there are two types of bay, enforcable and not enforcable, the latter being a 'reminder' to locals that a disabled person lives there. The former has a post and sign and it is an offence to park there. We have no post and sign.

Is this the case everywhere? What's the bloody point of our bay if any old twat can park there and know he can.

its true. white bays generally arent enforceable. most people dont know that. your twat of a neighbour unfortunatly does

bobalinga · 06/01/2007 11:35

The car sales place down the road often parks their 'for sale' vehicles either in my disabled bay or partly in it so I can't get in, let alone get C's wheelchair out the back. When tackled about it they called me (I have MS) a f cripple and hoped my daughter died of whatever she had!
I was absolutely horrified at such hostility to a disabled baby and it makes me feel sick inside that there are people like that :-(

.. am so sorry

MamazonAKAfatty · 06/01/2007 11:40

i would buy some printable stickers (they are about £5 for a pack of about 100)

print them with teh slogan

"inconsiderate nobhead -notice where i am parked"

and then stick them on every single one of the car dealers window.

they don't damage it in anyway but they are a pita to get off, hopefully their customers will notice them and think less of the business because of it.

2shoes · 06/01/2007 13:30

sorry with no post anyone can park there. but not nice to do it.

2shoes · 06/01/2007 13:31

bobalinga contact your local paper. I would.

Saturn74 · 06/01/2007 13:33

bobalinga, that's horrific!
RnBee, could you appeal to your neighbour's better nature? It may not be an offence to park there, but surely he realises that it causes you lots of difficulties if he uses it?
Some people are unbelievable.

GarfieldsGirl · 06/01/2007 13:52

It depends on the area. They have just become enforcable where we live. Complain to your LA, maybe with enough complaints they may do something about it.

2shoes · 06/01/2007 18:14

contact the council and get a post put up.

2shoes · 06/01/2007 18:16

maeant to add rnbee
You shouldn't have any troube we got one outside our old house. on bear road.
also contact the argus bet they will do a story on it.

Jimjams2 · 06/01/2007 20:10

We can't get a bay in our local authority as ds1 is a child. If he was a disabled adult we could. Serah has offered to help me out with that one, and I really must do it (on the list). I can;t go out at the moment when I have all 3 in case I can't park outside the house.

2shoes · 06/01/2007 20:22

rnb is under the same council as me so I know they do them for children here.
Terrible that yours don't

Jimjams2 · 06/01/2007 21:54

There is a wonderful mumsnetter who can sort out any parking issues , who has offered to help me. I am feeling very ungrateful as I haven't taken her up on her offer, instead have spent the time grumbling and moaning about not having a parking bay. Just incompitence on my part- it is on my list.
New years resolution- to sort the parking!

2shoes · 06/01/2007 23:10

can I have your permision to nag you

RnBee · 07/01/2007 00:07

OMG Bobalinga! that is unbelievable [angry} what total bastards. You should definitely report that to the local papers. I bet they won't be doing much business afterwards if you do. I am just completely shocked that anyone could do or say such a thing.

HumpreyCushion: it looks like the nieighbour has looked carefully into his rights and has no morals regarding the subject. When he said to dh that he 'knew it wasn't an offence' dh said 'so you think you're in the right then?'. He didn't say anything, showing that he couldn't give a toss.

2shoes - do you mean that you got a sign and post outside your house? I would love to do that and see his face when I do! In fact I think I would rather stick the post up his A*!

I honestly can't believe some peoples' attitude. It is disgusting.

Thanks for your replies x

anniebear · 07/01/2007 10:46

bobalinga

I would defo contact your paper and get them to do a story on it

RnBee, it is so annoying isnt it

Ellie can walk but doesn't have much sense of danger, so we have a parking bay, but the neighbours often park over it

I cant belive anyone would do that

Missed this thread before but the neighbour sounds like an arse. At least now if he parks there again you'll have a convenient post to ram up his backside. Well done to you.

Bobalinga - That is so awful. The b@st@rds!

Aloha · 11/01/2007 17:25

Bobalinga, call the police. Really, I mean it. Call them today.

bobalinga · 11/01/2007 18:16

There's no point in reporting idiots like those at the garage. Its the fastest way to get a brick through the window and labelled a grass :-(
Its pretty horrid having to walk past there everyday with those neanderthals watching.

2shoes · 11/01/2007 18:50

RnBee well done pleased to hear that
