I thought the piece by Christine Howells was a bit odd. I don't think I've ever heard of autism being a "fashionable" label to have. I also haven't heard of autism being over-diagnosed either, although I could be wrong?

It's depressing just how little support people all over the country are being given. I agree wholeheartedly with LB-B.

I thought the piece by Debbie Hudson was very well said.

My ds is AS and I dread to think what will happen to him should I die, especially having read Debbie's thoughts. I ask myself constantly, whether his special needs would be met should he go to his father. The answer is no!

The idea of taking all our children to the Houses of Parliament was a fantastic picture in my head - but boy, would it work!

All the letters were basically saying the same thing - but what can be done about it?

Thanks for highlighting this Jimjams.

Were you the poster from Cornwall Jimjams??

Oh just realised Carole Rutherfors contributed a piece. We're member of AIM and when her husband did a nationwide tour collecting signatures he visited us. I'll dig out the AIM website when I get a chance, if you want to get involved in changing things its a good organisation- keen to try and so stuff rather than just talk about it.

I have a feeling I know which school they are travelling to though.... There's a very good non local authority school- think it is run along behaviuoural lines. I went to a talk from people who were in charge of their adult residential bit and was very impressed. They knew their stuff. The school looks lovely as well.

Didn't read it all in detail but had to cring/laugh at the fashionable comment! I sometimes say that autism is "the disability of choice" but as a joke!!! I also think that the postcode lottery is a bit of a red herring as, ime, LEAs treat every case differently. You just never know where you stand and what direction they will take depending on what has happened before. ALso, LEA staff are always changing and I think that affects how they deal with each separate case. A friend who lives 5 mins away from me went to Tribunal last week to get ABA for her son, she is still waiting for the outcome. Last year another local family got £30,000 for ABA with little fight. I know their cases are different but not THAT different. I know some LEAs are ALWAYS hostile and are refusing to even statement more and more but it does seem to depend a lot on what side of the bed they got out of.....
