DS age 10 has undiagnosed Asperger traits but has done well educationally. Recently had ed. psychology assessment at school - and I'm really glad we've had this done as it's highlighted certain areas. e.g. ed. pych. said did I know he's sitting by himself in class? , and he's very tentative in approaching other children.
They're going to find ways of 'giving him success in social situations', reviews every 6 months, and extra help with moving to senior school. Because he's good and quiet, his latest very young teacher has not noticed anything wrong, so I would recommend this route to anyone with a child with any kind of need even if it's rather subtle such as acute shyness etc.

Hi, thanks Peachy. Have posted once before and found you all very understanding and supportive. Although the children all have different traits there's always someone who's going through the same thing which is nice.

Next step is trying to get DS to join hockey club - it took DH and me to drag him to the club's family fun morning and he cried and refused to do anything for about half an hour - the staff and other kids were really sweet trying to get him to join in, eventually he did cos I said we wouldn't go home until he did something (!), and then once he had, he tried a few of the activities. We had to be hard (he likes hockey at school and is good at it)but it wasn't very nice. Felt sorry for DH; he knew people there with their sons, but he said he didn't mind. If it sounds like we're hard we're not, but given the chance DS would stay in bed with playstation and never go out! He's not part of the football scene which is a big thing in the playground at his school, so hoping this will get him in with an alternative group and that he'll enjoy it.

sm's like that, albeit lego instead of playstation, agoraphobic like tendencies are common as part of AS / HFA I believe.

sam does something for X weeks thn announces he ahtes it, we used to give in but now we don't, we make him go as with rugby 9what he does now) he clarly enjoys it whilst he is there (its a Non contact Sn rugby session).

Now danicng- he trashed the piano and rhey gave Dh a full refund to take him away!
