dropped through my letterbox this morning.

I have laughed and cried throughout reading the evidence as all professionals agree that M has problems with :
social communication interaction language disorder repeptitive speech OCD
They have offered up to 20 hours a week support.
Nothing from OT or any other professional, no SALT even though the Ed psych specifically says he has problems with his speech and is pedantic and repetitive, AND the biggest shock is that they have omitted the report from the CAMHS psych who carried out half an asessment and said no to ASD and they have omitted our independant psychs opinion of M,s educational difficulties.

Now i want to name the independant school in part 4 so will be sending it back to them and requesting a meeting but what about the missing reports?

Do i bring this up at the meeting or should i write beforehand?

Thanks

Glad to hear it's moving on, Jenk!
No advice about what to do, I'm afraid, as DS2's statementing application was rejected twice , but just wanted to post re the good news.

Bet you were glad to see the proposed statement!.

I would run Parts 2 and 3 past IPSEA verbatim before you agree to it. Not really surprised unfortunately to see no SALT provision, its not often seen in statements although it can be written into part 2.

Certainly name the school in Part 4.

Would suggest you speak to IPSEA about the other points you mention to get their imput. I would in any event request a meeting with the LEA even though this will ultimately delay the finalised statement being issued by a few weeks. You want this document right - you've fought for this long and hard.

That's brilliant. We have our meeting with the LEA on Thursday so will let you know if I have any tips afterwards!

jenk1 · 11/12/2006 17:52

Aw thanks everyone, i have been in tears all day, it feels like the end of a big emotional rollercoaster ride that started off over a year ago with the school/EWO/LEA all saying that they couldnt see M,s difficulties and basically saying that we were making it up.

To see in black and white what you have always known is both a comfort and upsetting to think that all these months have been spent arguing over M,s difficulties.

Just heard back from our private psych, he wants the report sent to him ASAP and has told me to hold off from naming the independant school because we havent yet been to the mainstream school that they have in mind and told them its rubbish yet!!!!!

This time the Ed Psych, Paediatrician,OT,even the home tutor have all agreed and i found out that the Ed Psych even phone the first Clinical Psych who said M had AS within 5 mins of meeting him to ask her for her "unofficial" input, which is really nice of her, the Ed Psych is a private psych that the LEA brought in as all their psychs couldnt fit M in to the alloted time period so we have really been fortunate with her.

And today a letter has gone off to the boss of the CAMHS unit who refused to dx M despite there being overwhelming evidence of the triad of impairments, so we shall see what happens with that!!!!!

Jenk - 20 hours is fantastic! but I would chase up the missing reports - I'm guessing you have copies you could offer to send on if they've 'lost' theirs... You could also try and get SALT written into the statement, and if your not 100% happy with the wording it can be changed.

Well done on gettting this far - its been a hell of a fight for you t get m's needs recognised, you must feel odd, I cried for about 3 days when ds2s was finally issued its a very very odd feeling, that I can't explain or pinpoint what it was...

DingdongMegaLegsonhigh · 12/12/2006 11:21

Jenk - glad to hear your news. My ds is still small so we havn't entered this phase yet but at his last visit to the cdc the paed mentioned statementing and DLA. I find it so comforting that there is such a wealth of support and info here.
I'm probably going to drive you all mad with endless questions over the next few months.

amynnixmum · 12/12/2006 11:36

good news jenk - hope you get the problems sorted out.

macwoozy · 12/12/2006 15:48

WOW! No wonder you've been in tears all day, big happy tears for once Jenk

jenk1 · 12/12/2006 20:15

spoke to IPSEA tonight, they were brill as usual.

She has told me to write to the LEA telling them that we disagree with Part 3 as its not "specified or quantified the provision/hours"
and that we are to say we are not naming the school in part 4 as part 3 is not correct.

She said we have a really good, strong case for an ASD special school and that not to listen to the LEA when they say as DS doesnt have an NHS dx that he cant go into a special school as thats rubbish, she said theres no blood test for ASD and if they are saying ASD traits (NHS) then the special school will take him and not to get worried when they start saying that they cannot afford the fees of the independant school as all LEA,s buy into each others different LEA,s services.

And tomorrow we are going to look at the LEA,s chosen mainstream school and our psych has told me to say nowt and just smile and be polite as DS aint going to that school!!!!!!

I feel so much calmer for talking to IPSEA.

Oh well done Jenk - I am just starting this struggle - hope we get a good result too.

macwoozy · 13/12/2006 00:22

I think I'm in awe of all the struggles that you've gone through with your ds and the tremendous outcome that you've achieved. A great example of what can be done if you have the strength to hold on to what you believe.

jenk1 · 13/12/2006 09:19

macwoozy, that post has made me very tearful, what a lovely thing to say, thanks
