My mum and dad have had a little win fall and asked for ideas for an extra pressie for Amelia and I am just stuck!!

I know it sound awful, but I always try to get something stimulating and educational and appropriate for her "style of learning!" IYSWIM. But then I feel guilty that it seems more like SALT/therapy resources rather than an Xmas pressie!

Any ideas please. M & D were looking at this She loves music/dancing and I am hoping her reading skills would be stimulated by this too...but it's an awful lot of money for them to pay for something that is not suitable.

Any advice or other ideas would be much appreciated. Amelia has fairly recently turned 5 and has Down Syndrome.

Hi Dingle, the karaoke machines are OK, but we found ours to be a bit flimsy for the money we paid.
It was a different brand to the one you linked to though, so I can't comment on that exact one.
We get much more use out of the PlayStation 2 'Singstar' disks.
If you already have a PS2, the 'Singstar' games are great value, and they also have the subtitles to help with reading. You also get two microphones, and can sing as a soloist, as a duet, or as a competition.
I hope Amelia has fun with whatever present you decide on!

if she loves singing, that would be great!!

There is another one in Argos if you didn't want them to pay that much and maybe get her something else also

My DD Ellie (SN) aged 5 would love any of those!!! She loves her music. I would tend to go for the Barbir one as it is cheaper, the other one is quite expensive for a young child and Mine would probably break it!! as ther eis a lot of buttons to press on it lol

How lovely of your Mum and Dad

Hmmm I wondered about singstar but have no real knowledge of it and how appropriate it will be for Amelia...I can imagine big brother keep on taking over though!!

Anniebear, have looked at those BUT Amelia is a nightmare with tapes, she just takes them out and wreck them! so it would need to be a CD!

LOL, yes my dad had a win on the horses ( one of his bad habits) and they know what a hard time of it we have all had recently and thought as the kiddies are doing so well, they wanted to treat them! I told them to keep their money as they help in so many other ways, but there is no argueing with my dad!

I would like to find out more about eye toys for the PS2 if anyone has any knowledge please.

I have had a look and the games start from ages 3+. Amelia gets so frustrated because she hasn't got the fine motor skills to cope with fiddly controls but some of the eye toy games seem to be played using larger gross motor skills. ( which still need working on but not to the extent of her fine motor skill IYSWIM!)

Have a look here

Is it one of those anniebear?

my three love the eyetoy games DS can read DDs cant but they still manage to muddle throu if they know the song, if not they make it up!
we have the eyetoy sports game which is really good but quite physical, eg on the sack race it takes a photo of you and puts it into the sack and then you have to jump up and down the faster you jump the faster you go, we have recently got the guitar heros one which is fab you just have to colour match the button on the guitar to the ones on screen.
eye toy has been truely wonderful for my three and us bigger kids like it too
