I have a 2 year Autistic now am not in any rush with potty training just looking for some advice and see if anyone can help with some questions i have.
It doesn't actually seem he knows when he needs to wee. When he yas no nappy on and wees hes not actually aware hes weeing till he feels it touch his leg now i have noticed if my 11 month old has no nappy on that he looks down just before he wees so seems aware hes going to but my 2 year old doesn't seem aware till he can feel the wet. Is this normal to not know? Or do you think he has no feeling he he needs the toilet?
He will say hes pooped however 95% of the time he hasn't its just his way of saying hes uncomfortable and wants a clean nappy on. Now i can getting told of hv that i need to start potty training as hes saying hes pooped but surely i need to wait till hes actually pooping and don't you wait till they start noticing just before they need to go?
I know toilet training an autistic is difficult i have done it once before with my 11 year old but he was different as he was allergic to nappies so was potty trained at 18 months old and it was basicly you will do it as we have no choice. I have everything he needs to potty train i have been getting him familiar with them encouraging to sit on potty with nappy trouser still on to familiarise him with them. Anyone has any other advise or answer to any of my questions that would be great.
