School transport -getting LA to agree to taxi?

Hi
I used to post here a few years ago when my DS1 was being assessed and statemented. (was notfromaroundhere/polareyes)

DS1 is now yr5 and secondary school is looming. I'm happy to send him to our catchment school which children from our village go to on a bus. I do not think there is a snowballs chance in hell I would get him on it; he is way too anxious/can't cope with the proximity of other children and pretty unlikely to get the return one home/get off at correct stop etc.

He is currently statemented which is changing over to ECHP at annual review.

My actual question is, has anyone managed to get the LA to agree to fund a taxi for social/anxiety reasons? If so what was the burden of proof needed to convince them? Or am I on a hiding to nothing?

Transport must be 'non-stressful' so your child is able to benefit from his education. It sounds like in your ds case a bus would not meet this.

You will probably have the evidence you need in the shape of things like annual review reports. Talk to the school and see if they will back up you and provide a report abut your DS' anxiety and problems with being near other children and with organisation. It would also be helpful to see if his paediatrician could do a report or letter.

Thank you for the replies, it is reassuring to hear it might be possible. I've had him discharged from everything bar the Specialist Teacher team as there was no point but I'm thinking I may need access to the paediatrician to officially document his anxiety.
Thanks again
