Sorry coppertop I know I've asked for this loads of times - does anyone have the link (I need to add it to favourites).

Friend needs it- school are trying to say her son has when he so obviously does not (ironic huh).

PMSL- did ds3 out of interest (because he's such a tantrumy headbanger- he got 15- NO PDD) then did ds1- 158!!!! err think there might be a problem there. Forwarded it onto my friend- so thanks.

I'm glad it was the one you were looking for. Fingers crossed it will be useful for your friend too. Weird that the school are trying to dx it when the ds doesn't even have it. Then again nothing would surprise me these days!

flippin eck, DD scored 191, oh well she,s just had her asessment at the CDC and we are waiting on the results.

2mum · 04/12/2006 17:15

I did ds2 and his score was 180 but some of the questions dont apply as he has no speech so i reckon his score should be higher than this.

SpookyMadMerryChristmasMummy · 04/12/2006 17:24

my dd1 scored 168!

2mum - you need to do what I did. All the speech ones I clicked "no" so making the score a little bit lower

Socci you must be doing something right. We're heading in the wrong direction. Recently did a CARS est- first time we did one he was 4 and came out as moderately autistic, this time (7) - severe- deep joy!

I did the test again JimJams it was a wee bit lower only 172 this time!

Jimjams2 · 04/12/2006 23:14

You need to get someone else to do it. When we did the CARS test we were asked to get a few people to do it. We were all very similar, all severely autistic, except my mum who could be heard muttering to herself "well he tries really hard, and I think he understands lots really" as she filled it in

Hee hee JJ - my Mum would do exactly the same. My MIL's worse - she's always muttering 'He'll be fine in the end...it'll all come together...you'll see'. Mind you, she's just spent a week with us and didn't say it once - think penny might have dropped. Just off to do test now

DS1 - 47 - No PDD (but I'm not sure what the lowest score is for mild.)
DS2 - 112 - moderate.
Interesting, as we've never been given an opinion by a professional as to where he is on the spectrum. I always describe him as moderate though, on the basis that he's severe in some areas and mild in others!

Bink · 05/12/2006 12:42

sphil - I think the line is between 49 (= "no") & 50 (= "mild"). (And just to reiterate what we've been saying about your ds1 and my ds, my ds scores 49 - if I score his alternative-planet-creating as "normal" imaginative activity - or mid-fifties if I score that as "mild" oddity.)

COPPERfeelunderSantasTOP · 05/12/2006 13:45

I did it again for ds1 and ds2. Ds1 scored 112 and ds2 scored 142 - both moderate. Strangely I would've said that ds2's ASD was milder than ds1's. Ds2 scored mainly 'milds' with a few 'moderates' whereas ds1 had everything from 'no' to 'severe'

sphil · 05/12/2006 22:29

CT - DS2 had everything from 'no' to 'severe' as well, and ended up with same score as your DS1! Must be wrong, surely - I've always thought of your DS1 as HF and I certainly wouldn't put DS2 in that bracket.

Bink - how funny after our discussions that their scores should be so similar! There were plenty of questions that I wasn't sure about though (with both boys). Would probably come out different if I went and did it again now!

COPPERfeelunderSantasTOP · 05/12/2006 23:18

It's strange isn't it? I found that there were a lot of areas in the test where I would've thought ds1 only had mild difficulties but that when I read the actual criteria ds1 scored as moderate, eg the question about speaking in a loud voice. To me, on a day-to-day basis it's a relatively mild problem but because he does it so often it's classed as moderate in the test.

sphil · 06/12/2006 14:19

Yes, I guess it all depends on perspective doesn't it? DS2 is very easy to look after because he's even tempered but very difficult to teach because of his lack of attention/motivation. People (non specialists I mean) tend to see him as mildly autistic because he's not tantruming or head banging but they don't see the more subtle things that put him further down the spectrum. And we didn't, either, at the beginning.
