Just had this in my FB feed, and thought it might be interesting to those of you with girls undergoing assessment. Apologies if it's already been posted here.

Autism in girls

Great article. I think subtle and yet significant sums it up. I know people are surprised when I tell them my DD has autism, some have even tried to convince me that I must be mistaken Hmm On the surface she is bright and chatty and quirky, and yet she has significant difficulties in so many areas of her life.

I saw this on my FB too, it's a great article and the more awareness for girls with autism the better.

I have 'friends' who don't think my daughter has autism. When she was going through assessments one of them told my SIL they thought I was being melodramatic and making something out of nothing. Even my dad said she can't possibly have it, we see him once a year Hmm.

I might go and find this and share it on my FB.

Great article. I second missykix and shady, I'm sure that when people see my seemingly chatty, confident dd they don't think she has Aspergers. I've even been told by a dear friend that she doesn't believe that dd has ASD and surely neither do I. However, they've never witnessed the melt downs, tears and terror when asked to do something which she deems unreasonable. I won't even touch on how school used to view her problems- when she still attended that is Confused

Thanks for sharing.

Tbh, 'subtle but significant' applies to my ds, too. I've had lots of Hmm from people over the years, who have doubted his dx. They never saw him when he flipped, though, and his autism was far more 'obvious' then.
