Hello all,
DC has ASD is in Y1 and has on his statement that he should have an ABA program in a mainstream school setting (specific wording, funding provided)
He has been going to school half time and doing his ABA program at home in the other half of the time.
The school had an existing and much loved LSA who they already hired when dc was admitted.
As a really good school and LSA (not ABA trained) we worked with that and gave her extensive training in ABA techniques and it was working ok, although we requested in the annual review that our ABA tutor would do a better job, but didn't push it.
Apparently his LSA quit a few weeks weeks ago is leaving next week, and the school have already interviewed and hired a replacement from an agency, telling us today there is a new person doing handover.
This was obviously quite a shock and we would prefer for his tutor (who has experience as an LSA, lots of experience tc) to be his new LSA so no pairing etc is needed and its easier for him to move up to full time.
Any suggestions how to handle this?
We are happy for the tutor to become a school-paid LSA (I'm guessing there is a financial/organisational benefit for that vs if they're paid by the LEA as the tutor is now?) and top up.
Do we push for a trial and offer to cover LSA agency costs if it doesn't work out? Anyone know how much that is?
Would the school lose the money for the LSA for the full year as a result or is there a typical notice period?
Do we switch it over to lawyers?
Thanks!
