HELP: 8 year old poo question!

How do i deal with this, he is 8 and in nappies.
over the last few weeks he's started running off to his room to go poo. I don't trust him at all as he is a child who smears if left for a few minutes, so far i have been pretty lucky.
I've been trying to catch him and bring him back into the room i am in, but sometimes its hard to tell when he's going up to get something or going to poo.

Has anyone gone through this situation, how do i stop it?

I have a 10 yr old who still doesnt get it and probably never will so give yourself a huge pat on the back for a job well done(tho pardon the pun...my father referred to poos as 'jobs' when we were kids. Never did find out why)
Every bit of progress is a massive achievement isnt it?

It's great flap i'm so proud of him.

His verbal skill are not very good, he's picked up a lot of echolalia recently but doesn't get the meaning. he can sign though so that helps massively, we are all trying to get him signing for when his nappies are wet right now.

Search online for the Victoria Continence Service in Australia. They have a toilet training programme for children with learning difficulties - One Step at a Time - which has an advice sheet about this.
