Hi, we are going to have a look around what we think is the only school suitable for our daughter on Friday. It's a school which caters for moderate learning difficulties and autism.
I just wondered what questions I should ask? I've read their ofstead and looked at the website and I'm impressed, it seems a lovely little school.
All I can think of is one question relating to my daughters personal care and going from having a full time one to one, to none.
If you can think of any questions, or direct me to a thread where this has been covered before, that would be great.
Thank you. Smile

I've just bought a book called" choosing a school for a child with special needs" by Ruth Birnbaum. I haven't read it thoroughly just skimmed through but it has loads of questions that I had never thought of asking a special school. For example: what support is there at playtime? Who provides it? How do the staff recognise my child is not happy if they do not communicate easily?
I got my book from Amazon. But for quickness you can probably get a kindle version.
I hope Friday goes well for you.

Thank you, that's brilliant! I'll have a look for that.

The visit didn't go too well. The head had been called to a meeting, so we were shown around by a lady who had only worked at the school a year. She didn't speak to any of the children we met on the way, we only saw empty class rooms as it was play time and it just didn't feel warm and welcoming.
Everyone speaks so highly of it though and it has very good ofstead. I've arranged for a second viewing with the head this time. If I still feel the same way, I'll write it off.
