Seizures and the school care plan!

I have a close friend whose little one is almost like a sibling to my lo. She is 7 and when she was a baby she had a couple of seizures, mostly when she was surprised by something. This has largely disappeared but on a recent holiday she had another one.
Mum has informed school and asked about a care plan for swimming lessons and requested a TA to take charge of her for school trips. School has not agreed to these care palans and she's been told it's not their problem.
The child has these episodes very infrequently and is not taking medication for them but she is being seen by a neurologist. What should the school be doing and what questions should mum be asking? Ta in advance.

I suspect your friend needs a letter or report from the neurologist which spells out the risks and what is needed by way of care. They really won't be able to disagree with that and they need to be aware that if anything went wrong as a result of their refusal to take basic care they would be looking at a hefty negligence claim - not, of course, that that would be any consolation to you. However, pressure from their insurers may have more effect!

There's some useful official guidance here

Sorry, when I said consolation to you I meant consolation to your friend.

Your friend needs to contact her health visitor who can her get a care plan in place.
My DD exactly same. She has a care plan now. Whether school read it and remember it when she does have one is another matter!
