ASD schools in Scotland

Just wondering if anyone can give me some info on schools in Scotland for my DS who has just been diagnosed with ASD. I have been told he will need a specialist provision for him particularly when he gets to high school which is in a years time.

He is high functioning but struggling with an added diagnosis of dyslexia/dyscalculia so despite a normal IQ is way behind academically. They think this is being made worse by SPD which is still to be diagnosed officially.

We are in England just now and about to apply for his EHCP but we would all love to come back home to Scotland (Glasgow). Have been away for 2 years and never really looked into the schools then. Has anyone any experience? Is it better to stay put where I know there are good ASD schools (albeit hard to get into)? What do you Scottish mums do and what is available for your DC?

Many thanks in advance for any info.

There are two schools in Glasgow with specialist provision for pupils with ASD.

The Govan High unit is for "low functioning" Hmm according to my friend whose son has ASD and the pupils are kept separate with no real expectation or effort to get them into mainstream.

Her ds went to King's Park Secondary where the unit is much more integrated and more suitable for those with high functioning ASD. After a year he was able to go fully into mainstream, with the ability to call on support if required. Smile

Holyrood Secondary also seems to cope well with kids on the spectrum according to other friends.

Had had to retype this - and missed out the word secondary Blush

There is at least one specialist unit in the Glasgow Primary schools - the Toryglen Autism Unit, attached to Toryglen Primary School. Not sure if/how support is provided more generally across the city.
