Listening now to the dreaded You & Yours and there's a very interesting discussion on Statementing. If you can listen again, its worth hearing (said grudglingly!). Definitely interesting for anyone who is told that their child doesn't "need" a statement and everything can be sorted out by their m/s school.

Damn it, I am at work so don't have access to a radio.

Davros, obviously you know about statementing, but my ds (AS / ADHD) was not statemented - and strangely - is in m/s school too!

Academically he is fine - above average I would say, and very, very bright. However, he takes Ritalin to calm him and because he can "cope" he is thought to be ok. He falls down on the typical AS symptoms: social interaction, unsure of when to stop, needing someone (TA) there for a hug or support etc.

I shouldn't complain as he does get alot of help from the TA, but she is young and may leave and then he would be very upset and disorientated as he is with a change in his routine. I am dreading the SATs next year as I really don't think he will cope - he hasn't whenever they have had a test - he panics as the TA can't help him.

Is this grounds enough to get him statemented do you think? I would like to get him some proper help. His IEP is a joke. I would appreciate some help as I don't really know enough about it. Thanks in advance. x
