8/13 - Rosie

The documentary series following the lives of children who live in unusual circumstances here focuses on 11-year-old Rosie. When she was just three years old, Rosie was diagnosed with autism. Throughout her brief career at nursery and primary school, she was unable to develop speech and communication skills and failed to progress as a result. Now, through learning with her mum, she is beginning to master speech.

I'd say moderate with that description. She sounds similar to my friend's dd. The severe end of severe would be someone who really cannot/does not commuicate at all.

the only thing that was making me not sure was the fact she still wore nappies, but maybe she had another medical problem not connected to her autism.

We need a CARS test

She walked backwards in shop cos it was less stressful

she didn't remember going to friends house

each time she went there they said it was like her first time

she wouldn't let anyone sing happy birthday to her or her dad

she had certain foods that she ate quite often on her own in her bedroom watching her dvd player

The whole point of the show is to show children how different children's lives are

So that is why it is called "a different life"

So it is aimed at young children

IMHO I thought it was very good as they all are welove them in the kanga house

she also liked to cover parts of the tv when she was watching a dvd, she found it easier to process when she could only see part of the screen, i think that was the reason given anyway.

lanismum · 26/11/2006 21:36

I only watched because I saw your alert, I would watch again though, it was very interesting.

lanismum ~ I am not sure if she did actually wear nappies as it didn't look as though she did. Her clothes all looked like she didn't iykwim but I did see brother putting nappies in basket.
JJ ~ I think moderate would describe Rosie yep. She did talk but extremely stilted iykwim

lanismum · 26/11/2006 21:39

ahhh, I did see the brother pack some clean pants for her now you mention it, who knows? she was a very sweet kid though

RTKangaMummy · 26/11/2006 21:40

Could it be that she only wants to poo in a nappy?

I used to childmind a boy who did that

i thought she was more moderate, especially in her speech and the way she reacted to the supermarket, i thought it was a good documentary.
