I can't find the thread we had recently so this organisation may be the one that someone on that thread was referring to but didn't mention as they have some involvement.
www.findasitter.co.uk - This is a website directory for babysitters andn parents to match up with each other and an emphasis on children who have disabilities. I haven't tried it myself so would be interested in feedback.

This looks promising, thanks Davros I haven't been out with dp for an evening out ever since ds was born over 6 years ago, oh how I'd love to prop up a bar again, no actually I lie, my brother had him for a whopping 2 hrs one night. I just had a quick look at the site, and within 5 miles radius, I found the perfect person who claims to have extensive experience of working with children with special needs, BUT at the bottom I noticed she doesn't like pets, and I've got a dog with very very smelly breath Will carry on searching.

I agree with Fio, send the dog out somewhere for the night! I've also found that "normal" babysitters can learn how to manage if they have the right attitude and personality. You could also look on the Gum Tree (think its www.gumtree.com but not sure).

We live in a small bungalow, if we put him away in a room he'd just end up yapping the whole evening, it drives you insane. It's not so bad really, I still get to go out with my mates, and get shamelessly bladdered.

I've been caring for children with Autism for a number of years now as a babysitter/evening nanny. I've been listed by FindASitter since August, but as yet have not been contacted by any parent. It is however early days for the site and I do hear that some babysitters are getting work via the site... just not me - perhaps not much demand in Surrey/Berks border area.

I agree with the 'normal babysitter' thing... as I don't have any formal training in caring for Autistic children, I'm just 'good' with children generally - last week a parent called me the 'child whisperer'. While FindASitter aims itself at parents of children with SN, I feel it can be used by all parents.

what is the going rate for a babysitter? i have never had anyone that wasn't family but i feel like i need to use them so often when i have court or DR's appearances so i cant really ask them to babysit for just a night out (not that i have anywhere to go or anyone to go with)

so just wondered how much it wuld cost for a typical night out
