My son is 10 and has a dx of autism. He ticks nearly every box for APD but my GP and CAMHS are reluctant to refer him for tests (I suspect due to out of county, budget type issues).

Where is the testing for this? Is it Sheffield or GOSH?
Are there any private clinics or can I refer privately?

My main concern is that this time next year DS will be going into a senior school with much less classroom support and a lot less help in terms of assisting him with verbal instructions, holding conversations, lisitening to verbal information that he will be expected to process, retain, etc.

Dont know how to tackle it, ideally I want to have it on paper IF he does have it, purely because I think it will be much more of an issue in a secondary school environment.

Any help and advice appreciated. (I'm juggling DS and work but will try to come back this evening).

Yes polter I feel I got his ASD dc and they washed their hands of us! I've been pushing for him to be seen by CAMHS for his anxiety for so long but they are notoriously overstretched and it's taken a lot of pushing and pestering.

I am concerned as we have had a brilliant primary that go all out for DS and so the secondary has big shoes to fill but I'm hoping I've made the right choice as they seem very good from what we've seen so far.

To get referred for APD assessment at either GOSH or Manchester Children's Hospital ask your GP to refer to Audiology and explain your concerns to them they can then refer onwards to APD assessments.

I asked at Alder Hey over a year ago, was seen audiology over a year ago. They said they were setting up a pathway for APD, we are still waiting!
They aren't keen to refer on to GOSH at all. I'm having no joy.

My 10 year old son was diagnosed APD and VPD a couple of months ago after waiting 3 years. Granted 2 of these were due to pandemic. His primary school are less than useless as without the official diagnosis they wouldn’t do much to help at all. New high school is all geared up for his conditions thankfully. He was diagnosed at Preston Paediatric audio clinic in Fulwood. He was referred by the school after I insisted something was very wrong with his progress and other symptoms. Try asking the school for a referral instead of your GP.
