TRIPLE X SYNDROME

MY BABY OF 6 MONTHS, CHARLOTTE, WAS DIAGNOSED AS HAVING TRIPLE X SYNDROME WHEN I HAD AN AMNIO TEST BEFORE SHE WAS BORN. I WOULD BE INTERESTED TO KNOW IF ANY OTHER MOTHERS OUT THERE HAVE HAD DAUGHTERS BORN WITH THE SAME CONDITION.

Charlie, I don't know what Triple X syndrome is. I have an 8.5 year old son with autism. I'm sure there are other MNers who will reply to your question and someone may know about this particular syndrome or have a child who also suffers. I expect everyone is busy because of the bank hol, I'm sure you'll get some better answers soon. Welcome to the SN board, are you also new to MN?

Must be a girl with an extra X chromosone?
I only know when I looked these things up that extra X chromosones in girls was quite common, actually, didn't seem to have that many bad effects, though. What have you been told C'B'Eyes?

This place says it puts people in contact with each other. Good luck.

Hi charlieblueeyes. Have you tried the support group mentioned here ? The helpline (0808 808 3555) should be able to tell you more as well. Good luck.

My sister has it. She is 29 now and also has other problems - deafness, club foot and cleft-lip. She isn't very tall but lives independantly and is the most stubborn and assertive person I know (apart from my mum!)
I think there is a very, very wide variation on the presentation of this syndrome.

Am intrigued, Goosey. Are those other problems typical of being Triple-X, or just happened to also happen to your Sis?

I don't really know moody, and it was a long time ago that my mum had her and there were not the support networks then so all mum got was the diagnosis and that was that. We have never met or heard of anyone with anything similar. My sister has just been fitted with a cochlear implant hearing aid and it is marvellous. People always talk to her as if she is simple because of her facial deformities and speech difficulties (she is very deaf without her aid) - but she is really quite astute and very capable of living a normal albeit supported life.
