Dd3 has not been awarded a place on the reward trip due to her poor attendance!!

Yes I agree that her attendance is poor, this is because she has been unable to attend school on roughly 15 occasions this year due to anxiety. this anxiety is school related it is normally caused by teachers failing to communicate effectively or failing to follow procedures!!

The school have failed to enable Dd3 to cope in certain lessons, they were alerted in January to her stress levels and after the EP went in in march they were again alerted to the problem, still nothing has been put into place.

But she is being left out of the trip due to her poor attendance SadConfused

And they wonder why I am at the end of my rope with them!!

Dd3 will get a reward, I will take her to the place they are going to on a different, quieter day where I will look after her properly [they lost her last time she went with them] and I will tell them all to go .... themselves, because I am done with it!!

Fuckwits and halfwits , save me from them!!

Forgot to say this is an "outstanding" school whose SEN team have won awards doncha know!!!

As we have been reminded dozens of times!! Hmm Confused

Awards in what? Ignorance?

That's terrible Sad I'd be tempted just to email using DDS to make a point. They don't need to know you won't follow through and are removing her. That'll just give them more justification to not care in their minds. Again Sad

I recently had the attendance records for DS who is on orange. Eg acceptable but lower than target. I just emailed HT and said if the LA insisted on marking children as absent for medical appointments related to disability/illness they'd have to deal with the paperwork the low attendance created.
Hence why he didn't go back Monday after appointment. He'd already been marked as absent and hates PE - not much point in him doing it when he's 'not yhere' then Wink

I so hate all these "good attendance schemes". My oldest ds, now an adult, just came in at the beginning of this sort of nonsense and as my youngest is still of school age I know it's got so much worse.

Oldest ds used to be excluded from rewards at secondary school as children had to have high attendance and no detentions. He worked really hard in lessons and never had detentions but had multiple health problems (all substantiated by the relevant medical consultants) so didn't meet the attendance requirement. But at the same time children who'd had detentions were allowed rewards, despite not officially qualifying, in order to encourage them. In his second year there we were given questionnaires about the rewards system and other stuff at school and I complained and mentioned disability discrimination and suddenly he was allowed rewards.

It wasn't a totally successful story as by the time my youngest ds arrived at the same school (different health condition but also substantiated by medical consultants) the attitude was pretty much "if you have an attendance problem we'd prefer you take yourselves somewhere else". Which eventually we had to do, as fighting them was exhausting and unproductive.

streakybacon · 21/05/2015 20:00

That's disgraceful Angry. How is dd? Is she upset about the trip?

frazzledbutcalm · 21/05/2015 20:01

That's terrible ineed .... I know this might not be possible, but as she's leaving school anyway, do you have to send her in for the last 6 weeks of the school year? If it's possible (for you home wise) can you just end her school life now?

My dd school is also still not understanding. One teacher yesterday told her she had to 'get over it' - her anxiety relating to playing a piece of music in front of the whole class. I'm livid on another thread about it.

Sad Sad

Thanks all, streaky yes she was upset, she got pushed over today too so said she must have the worst luck ever Sad she was a bit happier when I said we would go but I think she feels these things very deeply!

frazzled in theory we could manage if we took her out but we have paid for her to go on a weekend trip with the music department, music is her thing and she really wants to go!! If it wasnt for that I would. It is a complete lack of flexibility that causes these massive issues for our kids which could be solved so easily!! Sad

greener yes you are right its a shame so many vulnerable children are struggling so much and are being let down badly by adults who are supposed to be helping them Hmm And thankyou we will make sure she has a nice day out Smile

OP, please do an official complaint and copy it to Ofsted. They need to know this is illegal for the sake of other children.

Ineedmorepatience · 22/05/2015 07:32

Ok icimoi you are right and based on how upset Dd3 was last night I know I should.

Everything BlackeyedSusan said, with a side order of fucks Grin

Also, if you can summon the energy and bile, then I'd do what ici said.
Address the complaint to the school, copy it to the LA, and also copy it to the Ofsted Regional Director and lead HMI for SEND issues (I can give you their names if you want).

The magic phrase you want to include is this:

"As this is a qualifying complaint, we have copied it to Ofsted's Regional Director for information. If we cannot resolve this issue through the school's complaints process, then we will complain to Ofsted formally."

Ofsted won't arbitrate for individual complaints, and they won't do anything at all unless you've exhausted the school complaints process. But Ofsted have to take note of qualifying complaints, and the school will know this. And your school sounds like one of those highly-polished turds that cares very deeply about Ofsted.

At best (for the school that is), Ofsted will attach the complaint to the school's file, and the lead inspector will take note of it when the school is inspected next. The complaint might lead Ofsted to bring forward the school's next inspection date. At worst - pretty unlikely in this case, tbh - Ofsted will conduct a snap, no-notice inspection.

And if there are other parents in the same boat as you, it would do no harm at all to coordinate a complaint with them Wink

youarekiddingme · 22/05/2015 16:31

Grin @ highly polished turds!

2boysnamedR · 22/05/2015 16:31

Sorry I missed that Sad wrapped up in my own issues this week
