hi , my 3 and half ds still has a dummy at night , with the severe speech and language delay and his understanding being behind and him rougly being at a 18mnth/2yr old , he struggles to understand , i told my hv the other day and she said its fine cause its only at night so wont harm his speech , he gave it up at daytime when he was 2 yrs , i made it into a game of putting it under his pillow and now he will put it om his bed,

I just wanted to know what other people thought of it

My rather expert nanny said to stop the dummy when you did ie at 2 years.

The advice was about teeth being straight.

Well years later ds did not need braces and teeth are immaculate. Dd who had exactly the same thing with a dummy had the full bicycle chain braces.

If it works well for your family, trust your judgement. If you are worried, maybe try seeing what happens if you slip it out once dc had dropped off?

Dd2 and 3 continued to have a dummy for far longer than they really should have but like you it was only in bed!

Dont sweat the small stuff, having a dummy in bed at night at 3.5 isnt life changing, choose your battles.

Good luck Flowers

Hi Emmie my DS is 3.2, he has ASD and speech delay. He uses a dummy at night and sometimes during the day if he is poorly. I mentioned it to his paediatrican and the paediatrican said DS will give it up when he's ready. I'm not overly concerned about his dummy use.

Minipirate had an dummy both day and night well into his 6th year. I wouldn't worry.

I'm guilty of thinking sleepy children with Dummies are cute, I've never been able to take them away from my children fully before they were ready.

My dd had a dummy for ages, just like she used a bottle for milk for ages. She doesn't have a problem with her teeth. She eventually dropped both without too much bother. Agree don't sweat the small stuff.

I feel better knowing he isnt the only one who has a dummy at his age ,

My son had a dummy until a few months after his third birthday (he gave it up himself as lost interest)

My son was and still is severely speech delayed and awaiting an autism diagnosis.

I don't believe that not having a dummy would of made a difference! Many children have dummies and become great talkers if they are used constantly.

And because he only uses it at night time, it's not really a problem.

I sometimes wish my son still had his dummy to help calm him when he gets frustrated that he cannot communicate lol.

My brother had a dummy at night until age 8 and he has turned out fine!
