Hi emmie - hope your heart appointment went ok.

emmie5 · 14/05/2015 21:53

hi it went okay , he had to be weighed , so when i sat him down on the seat of the scales he screamed and cried and tried to climb off nd i had to hold him and then they wanted to do his height and that took me and a nurse to make him stand up straight but we didnt have to have a ECG or a scn of his heart as we had already done that it april it was to talk to one of the head consultant not one of his team as last time we had one of the team and they didnt explin it properly so overall it was good and DS loved going on the train to southampton and back again , he has to go in 2yrs so really chuffed with that.

That's good that it was all properly explained - it makes such a difference when you know / understand everything. I would write it all down as so easy to forget!

PLEASE can anyone help and advise me , im so struggling with my son , he has always had tantums but the last few days he is getting violent with them , he scratches me , hits me and head buts my legs and i just dont know what to do , i feel all alone that no one understands what i am going few or i get told its normal , its not normal to have a tantum for 45 mins over a pair of pants , he had a accident , so i told him it is fine and to put the clean pair on that i got for him , but he didnt want to put the pants on , i fought and put them on him , he was just screaming and lashing out , i put him in his pushchair for his safety and for mine after 10 mins he calmed down and was like a different child , he is 3 and half and is getting stronger and its getting me down , i have got doctors next month to go and talk to her , he is the youngest of 5 and none of my others where like him ,

sorry for the long post

hi , just an update my hv and i have got a meeting with the nursery the begining of june to talk to the nursery teacher about what help my ds will need while in nursery , it will be a nursery that is attached to the school that his 2 older sisters and his older brother goes to , so have had dealings with the school for a long time as my oldest is now in secondary school , my portage worker is coming out this week and is going to help me fill the dla form in for DS

Do you know if anybody has already applied for an EHCP? You mentioned an EP assessment earlier?
Nursery should be able to give some additional support without but if he does need a high level.of support then he will need one. Might be worth mentioning it during the meeting but, really, I would just apply myself and not wait for nursery (don't fall for the, 'oh he won't need one' etc).

Also, the process takes a minimum of 20 weeks (if everything goes super smooth) but it often doesn't.

Mine took almost 1.5 years to sort (appeal). Very common. As your DS will start school next year, I would really get the ball rolling to make sure he starts school with a watertight EHCP.

the EP have said they will see thomas but not until he starts at the nursery , which i cant understand why they wont see him at the childminders , dont think anyone has applied for a EHCP , how do i go about that ,

i was going though the folder that i have put all his reports from different people in and he had a MDA done when he was 10months old as he has had development prolems in all of the areas ,
my portage worker is coming to help me fill in a DLA form for him ,

im feeling so down at the moment as noone seems to understand and i dont know where to turn to ,
which is why i posted on here .

Don't feel alone. I have a boy roughly the same age who is non verbal.

You have portage? Do you have early years? Early years and portage work together on my sons behalf to make sure he gets what he needs education wise. They make sure he got into the right preschool, they move him through the LA panels for specialist preschool.

Getting the right help before he turns five is key as that's when help drys up

Sounds like a EHCP assessment is needed but from what I have been told the paperwork needs to be in for December for starting school sept 16.

chocnomorechoc · 27/05/2015 00:51

I would not wait until Dec to apply. It often takes longer than the stipulated 20 weeks to sort. They might turn you down and you have to appeal or you might have to appeal the contents. Also, they might issue an EHCP that covers nursery (happened to us).

www.ipsea.org.uk/what-you-need-to-know/model-letters/model-letter-1

This website explains how to apply. Very easy - just a letter and there is a model letter at the bottom of the page to download.

2boysnamedR · 27/05/2015 09:32

What I mean is that if the paperwork isn't in by dec at the latest it's unlikely to be ready for school.

I have a older boy who I applied for a statement so in my case I have decided not to apply myself for my younger boy ( but that's my circumstances, I have had three appeals over two years and decided on balance that the younger one is better off if I step back this time).

If op does decide to apply for a ech, it really will help if portage and early years step in as these people want to genuinely help unlike the people I have met at school who do not have the same level of experience in this area

Fighting is easier with people on your side.

Applying yourself and appealing is doable. People win. It's just easier if someone else initiates it.

I did win, but it takes time to appeal, and it hurts.

i am going to get the EHCP rolling as i think it will be in Thomas's best interest
