I have the Family Fund Assessor visiting tomorrow afternoon - besides the obvious questions about ds, what does this involve? Do I need to worry about anything except blitzing the house?
Any advice would be welcome. Thank you.

well my only advice...as i know nothing about the family fund........has to be THE HOUSEWORK!!!!!

Well....you know me....expert on clutter, socks and sycamore seeds!

Simple (though painful to endure i know!!)

The FF advisor would be shocked if you had total pristine tidiness...they know that when we have a life as we have that housework is not the prority!!!!

Shame our families didn't judge us too!!!!

Good luck !

ooops ....what i meant is it's a shame that our families judge us by the state of our homes..

Oooh I hadn't thought that it might seem odd that I had a wonderfully clutter-free house (hmmm...like that's ever going to happen! ) when we were applying for help.

I know what you mean about family and tidiness. Don't you ever feel that urge to say something like "Well if it bothers you all that much then why don't you get off your @rses and actually offer some help for once in your life???"

Or is it just me?

I had a visit a while back and the women was lovely,A was also right on target with beating his brother and flooding my kitchen while she was here. She asked about his difficulties and it seemed like a very very scaled down versionof the dla form, asking about his walking, behaviour, communication etc but very breifly.I was applying for driving lessons but she said what about days out etc they can be expensive especially as i take a carer with me at times so i said yes ok.This resulted in me getting my driving lessons and £380 cheque for familys days out and daily activities. So very positive.Let us know how you get on.

Two hours to go and ds2 has pretty much destroyed the living room again. Grrr! I've got all the financial papers/documents that I could find.

I'm a bit worried because I didn't get off to the best of starts with the FF adviser. The FF sent me a letter last month saying that someone would get in touch with me to arrange a visit and that we should let them know if we didn't hear anything within 4 weeks. A whole month went by so I e-mailed them asking if I'd somehow missed the call/letter. The same afternoon I got a call from an annoyed-sounding woman who told me that the FF had just phoned her to ask why there had been no contact. Apparently the poor woman had been in hospital. I hope she doesn't hold it against me.

Good luck!

Just be normal!

Hurray! It all went well in the end. The house was still a mess but the FF adviser seemed pretty much used to it. Ds1 didn't mind at all that there was a stranger in the house. Ds2 was too busy throwing things and climbing.

The questions were fairly straightforward. She was shocked at the amount of time we had to wait just to get a copy of ds1's assessment report (5 months). She also said that I was probably eligible for Carers Allowance and advised me to apply online (another job to do). We should hear within about 6 weeks or so if we will be awarded anything from the FF so fingers crossed.

Glad it went well CT and hope they send you a lovely fat cheque .

misdee · 11/11/2004 21:35

what did you ask for?

i have finally sent my forms back, for both my dd's. have asked for help with cothing, allergy bedding, new washing machine as mine is on the way out (is under 2yrs old, but worn out), and possbly a holiday if they'll let us. Neeed to afford somewhere with a nice big tub so my kids can soak at the end of the day. Last couple of holidays both dd's have ended up with infected ezcema as they havent been able to have baths, and we end up at the on site docs waiting for perscriptions for anti biotics and creams.

We were told to ask for whatever we needed/wanted but that we wouldn't necessarily get everything. Personally I would be over the moon to get even just one thing so anything else would be a lovely bonus.

We asked for a washing machine and/or tumbledrier to help with washing ds1's clothes after 'accidents'. When I said that our last holiday was our honeymoon 5 years ago we were encouraged to ask for a holiday. We were also advised to ask for help with transport costs as we don't have a car and have to rely on public transport to go anywhere.

glad that went ok!
