DD2 (8) has had problems with reading which have been more apparent as she has moved onto harder text with smaller words and closer together. We saw the optician last year who said that she did have problems with convergence, but to leave it a year and see whether the reading improves. We also had her screened for dyslexia (teacher screening, not full assessment) which came back as not dyslexic, she was above average on many of the tests, the only one which showed some cause for concern was how many words she read in a minute, which was the one which was closest to actual reading.

Following looking online etc we decided to try engaging eyes, which is an electronic equivalent of pencil pushups and Brock string. She has been doing it for a few months now, at first it was really hard, but she has been getting better and better at it. She has gone from struggling to read a page of Rainbow fairy equivalent sized text, to reading up to 6 pages of Harry Potter. All great, happy etc. Over the past few weeks she has started to complain about one eye really hurting. She says that that eye won't do the visual training, and even though she hasn't done any engaging eyes since Saturday (we were at my parents and no internet conection), she says that it still really hurts. The first appointment I can get is tomorrow with the Optician, and apparently we might need to pay as it is only 11 months since her last appointment, unless the optician deems it clinically necessary, but we won't know that until after the appointment!

Has anyone else experienced anything similar with their dc. I did wonder whether it was because the eyes are begining to work together (at last), and it is tiring doing it all day, but this seems to be a constant pain even in the mornings. Are there any questions which I need to ask tomorrow?
